ObjectiveTo observe the improvement of clinical symptoms and pre and post functional score changes in patients with temporomandibular joint disorder(TMD)treated with the Tonicity and Pain Relief Method, and to provide an obj ecti ve efficacy evaluation for the clinical treatment of TMD with the Tonicity and Pain Relief Method.MethodsSixty patients with temporomandibular joint disorder who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were assigned a number ranging from 1 to 60 according to the order of consultation. With the help of a random number table generated in the computer software SPSS25.0,the 60 numbers were randomly divided into a group of 30 patients each(treatment group)and a group of 30 patients in the conventional treatment group(control group). The treatment group was treated with acupuncture by the method of toning and relieving pain, and the control group was treated with conventional acupuncture method, with one treatment session per day,40 minutes each time, six sessions for one course of treatment, with one day off per week, for a total of two courses of treatment. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was evaluated and compared according to the scores of the visual analogue scale,Fricton index and quality of life comprehensive assessment questionnaire before and after treatment in each group.Results1.60 patients were included without shedding during the experiment,30 cases in the experimental group and 30 cases in the control group.2.Fricton index:before treatment, the values of DI,PI and CMI of patients in each group, all conformed to normal distribution. After comparison by t-test,the difference of P>0.05 was not statistically significant and was comparable. After treatment, the DI,PI,and CMI scores in each group were distributed according to normal distribution, and statistically significant differences between the two groups could be obtained after t-test within the group(P<0.05).The DI,PI,and CMI scores of each group decreased significantly compared with those before treatment, indicating that both treatment methods could improve temporomandibular joint function.Further intergroup comparison was performed, and the experimental group was compared with the control group as follows:DI value:P=0.000<0.05;PI value:P=0.000<0.05;CMI value:P=0.000<0.05.Therefore,the differences in the comparison of DI,PI,and CMI scores between the groups were significant. The differences were all statistically significant, suggesting that the improvement of temporomandibular joint function in TMD patients by the method of toning and pain relief was better than that by conventional acupuncture.3.VAS score:Before treatment, the patients’ VAS scores were tested by non-parametric test P=0.675>0.05,and the difference was not statistically significant, suggesting that between different groups, the patients’ VAS scores were comparable. After the completion of treatment, the scores of patients in each group were lower than before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that both the conventional acupuncture method and the toning and pain relief method could relieve the pain level of TMD patients. When the VAS scores were compared between groups, the difference was statistically significant at P=0.000<0.05 between the treatment group and the control group, suggesting that the effect of the method of toning and relieving pain was better than that of the conventional acupuncture method in improving pain symptoms.4.Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74(GQOLI-74):The scores of the patients before treatment were tested and conformed to normal distribution with chi-square,and were subj ected to t-test,suggesting that there was no difference between the groups before treatment(P=0.222>0.05),and P=0.000<0.05 after treatment,This demonstrated that there was a large difference between the two groups after treatment. The paired-sample t-test was used within the group, and the p-values were all 0.000<0.05,suggesting that there were significant differences between the groups before and after treatment, and the scores of all groups were improved after treatment, but the improvement of scores in the treatment group was better than that in the control group.5.Comparison of clinical efficacy:The total effective rate of the treatment group was 96.67%,and the total effective rate of the control group was 83.33%.The chi-square test showed that P=0.001<0.05,and the differences were statistically significant.Combining the statistical data showed that the overall efficacy of patients in the treatment group was better than that in the control group.Conclusion1.Both the conventional acupuncture method and the toning and pain relief method can improve the pain, the overall function of the temporomandibular joint, and the quality of life scores of patients with TMD with definite efficacy.2.The improvement of Fricton index,VAS score and quality of life comprehensive assessment questionnaire and the overall efficiency of the method were better than those of the conventional acupuncture method.
