Objective:To investigate the association between serum uric acid(SUA)level and the risk of developing atrial fibrillation(AF)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:Patients with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to the cardiovascular department of the cardiovascular department of the second hospital of Shanxi Medical University from January 2018 to December 2019 were selected as the study subjects(n=688).According to the electrocardiogram or Holter Monitor,Patients were divided into atrial fibrillation group(n=115)and non atrial fibrillation group(n=573).After matching the two groups in terms of age,BMI,history of hypertension and coronary heart disease with PSM,98 pairs of data were obtained.According to the characteristics of the data, different statistical methods were used to analyze the general clinical data of the two groups.A chi-squared test was utilized to compare the frequency distribution of SUA levels in the two groups. The logistic regression model was utilized to determine the relationship between SUA levels and diabetic atrial fibrillation.Participants were divided into tertiles according to SUA as tertile(T1):≤271,tertile 2(T2): 271~331,and tertile 3(T3): ≥331.The predictive value of SUA for atrial fibrillation in diabetic patients was evaluated by ROC curve. Results:A total of 196 patients were included in this study,98 cases of diabetes mellitus complicated with atrial fibrillation,98 cases of non-complicated atrial fibrillation in diabetes mellitus. There were statistically significant differences in total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, creatinine, uric acid, low density lipoprotein, thyroxine and left atrial diameter between the two groups(P < 0.05).Compared with patients without atrial fibrillation, uric acid in patients with atrial fibrillation group was significantly higher(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that uric acid levels were independently associated with the onset of AF.(OR=1.1,95%CI:1.03~1.07,P<0.001).The incidence rate of atrial fibrillation increases with the increase of uric acid level. The ROC curve AUC was0.694(95%CI:0.620~0.768,P<0.001);When uric acid is296.5umol/l,the patients may develop atrial fibrillation(The sensitivity is 70.4%,and the specificity is 61.2%).Conclusion:Elevated SUA level increased the chance of developing atrial fibrillation in a person with type 2 diabetes.SUA levels higher than 296.5umol/L may expose a person with type 2diabetes to developing atrial fibrillation.
