With the modernization of society,China has gradually changed from a past acquaintance society to a modern society.People need to communicate and interact with strangers increasingly. At this time, the trust model built on interpersonal trust is gradually unable to meet the needs of society. The importance of institutional trust is gradually revealed.Confidence crises broke out in various fields frequently, among them, the crisis of doctor-patient trust in the medical industry is particularly prominent. The public management field needs reasonable institution design to promote the establishment of trust urgently. Therefore,it is of great significance to clarify the relationship and path of the institution and doctor-patient trust. There are some literature describing the impact of institutions on trust, and some scholars have summarized it and said that four specific institutional forms of law,reputation,third-party certification, community norms, structure and procedures can affect trust. However, most of these theories remain at the theoretical level, lacking empirical testing, and have not explored the specific paths by which institutions affect trust. Therefore, based on these four institutional forms, combined with the medical industry where the trust crisis is more prominent, this article has carried out a study on the relationship and paths of institutions’ impact on doctor-patient trust. On the one hand, the situational experiment method was used to verify the relationship between institutions and trust, and supplemented with relevant empirical evidence. For the four institutions of law,reputation,third-party certification, community norms, structure and procedures, four experiments were designed, and 339 participants were invited to participate in them.A total of 678 questionnaires were recovered.Through paired analysis of experimental data,it is found that all four institutional forms can have a significant positive impact on trust levels. On the other hand, after the impact of the four institutional forms on trust has been empirically tested, the specific paths in which the institution affects doctor-patient trust is discussed in depth around the four institutional forms.Through multi-case study method, interviews and data collection were conducted for users of three online medical platforms, and case data was analyzed using the three-level coding method of grounded theory. The study found that institutions can affect doctor-patient trust through three paths: first,by the three mechanisms of improving psychological expectations, credibility judgment, and protection of rights and interests, institutions can affect the antecedents of trust;second,by the two mechanisms of restricting behaviors and providing interactive models, institutions can affect the interaction process between the two parties of trust;third, institutions can directly affect trust through the guarantee of the interaction results.Combining the research results, the following suggestions were made: first, improve laws and regulations, and strengthen legal publicity;second, fully utilize the role of reputation mechanism and strengthen its binding force;third, further enhance the impartiality of the third-party certification system;and finally, pay attention to the community norms, structure and procedures, and move towards formal standardization. |
