In recent years, the rapid development of China’s vegetable industry has brought high economic benefits to vegetable growers. At the same time, vegetable growers,as "rational economists",have been increasing the application of chemical fertilizers in order to improve vegetable production and increase their income, which in turn has caused a decline in soil quality and vegetable quality, and has led to more serious environmental pollution problems. In the short term, excessive fertilizer application by vegetable farmers will increase their agricultural income to a certain extent;however,in the long term, excessive fertilizer application will inevitably pose a serious threat to soil, water and food security. Therefore,it is important to study vegetable farmers’ willingness to reduce chemical fertilizers and to investigate the factors affecting them. This paper firstly analyzed the current situation of chemical fertilizer application among vegetable growers in Yunnan Province, from the perspectives of the current situation of vegetable production, the current situation of chemical fertilizer application, the intensity of vegetable chemical fertilizer application, the proportion of vegetable chemical fertilizer input and the efficiency of vegetable chemical fertilizer application in Yunnan Province.Secondly, through questionnaire survey method, field research was conducted in Yuanmou County,Tonghai County,Luliang County and Zhaoyang District of Yunnan Province,and630 valid questionnaires were obtained to get a preliminary understanding of vegetable growers’ chemical fertilizer application and their willingness to reduce chemical fertilizer in the process of vegetable cultivation. Finally,a binary LOGIT model was established to analyze the willingness of vegetable growers to reduce fertilizer by selecting 16 indicators with whether they were willing to reduce fertilizer as the explanatory variable. The results of the study showed that: gender, education level, whether or not they are village cadres, concentration of vegetable farming land, number of household laborers, soil formula fertilization, training on scientific fertilization techniques, knowledge of the consequences of excessive fertilizer application, the government will conduct safety testing of pesticide residues in vegetable fertilizers, and participation in fertilizer reduction will be beneficial to society have positive effects on vegetable farmers’ willingness to reduce fertilizer;age,part-time employment The degree of part-time employment has a negative influence on vegetable farmers’ willingness to reduce fertilizer. Therefore,in order to promote the green and sustainable development of vegetable industry in Yunnan Province and guide vegetable growers to reduce fertilizer application,we propose targeted countermeasures and suggestions from the government and vegetable growers respectively, such as,improving the soil testing and fertilizer application technology promotion system, adjusting the subsidy method of vegetable industry, improving the ecological environment awareness of vegetable growers, improving the scientific and cultural quality of vegetable growers, and strengthening the fertilizer application technology training of vegetable growers.Technical training for vegetable growers, etc.
