Favor relations embedded in the village network are essential to the daily production and life of rural society and affect the survival and development of farmers, while with the deepening of reform, the flow and integration of land and other factors are giving new vitality and vigor to agricultural production. In the context of rural revitalization,it is beneficial to study the interaction logic between the human interaction rooted in the countryside and the transfer of farming rights of small farmers to develop moderate scale operation, promote agricultural modernization and build a new development pattern in rural areas. In this paper,we take transaction costs as the starting point for theoretical analysis to establish the theoretical linkage between human interaction and smallholder farming rights transfer;in the empirical study,we use the Probit binary choice model and the zero-regression Tobit model based on the unbalanced panel data of the China Health and Pension Tracking Survey 2 to examine the participation decision and the degree decision of rural human interaction expenditure and income affecting smallholder farming rights transfer respectively.degree decision and the mechanism of action were tested. It was found that(1)the probability of transferring farming rights and the degree of transferring rights of smallholder farmers were both significantly facilitated by the expenditure item. This basic conclusion still holds after examining the robustness tests of sample selection, estimation methods, variable measures, and omitted variables. There is a slight contribution effect of the income item for favors, but this effect is not robust.(2)The effects of the human interaction expenditure and income terms on smallholder farmers’ transfer of farming rights are significantly heterogeneous in terms of intergenerational mobility in education, gender of household head, age, health, household income and social capital.Specifically, upward intergenerational mobility, male household head, older household head, low health level household head, lowincome household and high social capital household were more sensitive to HC expenditure, while HC income was more influential among female household head and low social capital household.(3)There are three paths to promote social participation, increase employment opportunities, and enhance transaction pricing for smallholder farmers to transfer their farming rights. In the empirical test,we find that favorable interaction has a positive and significant effect on the social activity participation of smallholder household heads and their spouses;favorable interaction has a significant and positive effect on the non-farm employment of household heads, but a slight effect on the employment of spouses;favorable interaction can increase the transaction pricing of farmland management rights transfer. This paper identifies the causal inferences and paths of effects of rural human interaction on the transfer of farmland management rights of small farmers, enriches the research on small farmers, increases and extends the research on the influence of rural social interpersonal interaction and the factors influencing farmland transfer, and provides policy insights for promoting farmland management rights transfer and agricultural moderate scale operation.
