delicious meat quality, but there are many problems in the breeding process of Guangxi Ma chicken, such as a long growth cycle, low growth performance and low feed conversion rate.In order to solve these problems and improve production efficiency, livestock farms often add additives to feed, while national regulations prohibited the addition of antibiotic growth promoters in feed,so additives including probiotics,Chinese herbal medicine and plant extracts will become effective substitutes.Lasia spinosa Thw.(LST)is a plant widely distributed in southern China and Southeast Asia.It has been reported that LST supplementation in the diet can promote the growth of buffalo and catfish, but the effects on poultry production is not clear. Therefore,in this study, the effects of dietary LST powder supplementation on growth performance, serum biochemistry, antioxidant level as well as intestinal morphology and microflora in Guangxi Ma chickens aged from 1 to 42 days were evaluated. The main results are as follows:1.Effects of lasia spinosa on growth performance of Guangxi Ma chicken.Data showed that there was no significant difference in mortality among groups supplemented with LST compared with the control group(P>0.05).The average body weight and average daily gain of chickens at 42 days were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the feed to meat ratio was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The average body weight of 1% group was the highest. The results showed that LST could effectively promote the growth performance of Guangxi Ma chicken.2.Effects of LST on serum biochemistry of Guangxi Ma chicken. The experimental data showed that the contents of triglyceride(TG)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were significantly decreased by dietary LST supplementation(P<0.05),while the content of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)was significantly increased(P<0.05).The contents of Ca,Fe and P in experimental groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),and magnesium content in the 4% experimental group was significantly higher than that in other groups(P<0.05).Experiments showed that LST can reduce blood lipids and increase ionic content in serum.3.Effects of lasia spinosa on antioxidant properties of Guangxi Ma chicken. The experimental data showed that the contents of catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)contents in serum and breast muscle, and catalase(CAT)in liver were significantly increased by LST supplementation(P<0.05),while the levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in serum, liver and breast muscle were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The results showed that LST exerted antioxidant influences on serum, liver and breast muscle of Guangxi Ma chicken.4.Effects of LST on intestinal morphology of Guangxi Ma chicken. The experimental data showed that the villus height of duodenum, jejunum, ileum and cecum was significantly increased by the addition of LST(P<0.05)and villus height/crypt depth(Vh/Cd)was significantly increased(P<0.05),while crypt depth was significantly lower than that of control group(P<0.05).The experiment proved that LST could improve the height of intestinal villi and reduce the depth of crypts in Guangxi Ma chickens.5.Effects of LST on intestinal microflora of Guangxi Ma chicken.Intestinal 16 s sequencing data showed that the number of OTU in the 1% experimental group was 3894,the highest among all the groups, and the number of the same OTU among all the groups was1638.Alpha-diversity analysis showed that PD_whole_tree,Chao1 and Observed_species in1% experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.05).Beta-diversity analysis,PCA and Anosim analysis(R=0.801 P=0.001)showed that the differences between groups were greater than the differences within groups, and the differences between different groups were significant.LEf Se analysis showed that there were significant differences in microbial abundance at class, order, family and genus levels, and beneficial bacteria such as Bacillus in 1% experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group at genus level. These results indicated that dietary supplementation of LST could change intestinal microflora diversity of Guangxi Ma chickens, and 1% LST concentration is beneficial to increase the number of probiotics, thus promoting intestinal health. In conclusion, dietary LST supplementation in 1-42-day-old Guangxi Ma chickens could promote growth performance, serum ionic content, antioxidant capacities and intestinal morphology, while reducing blood lipids. Moreover LST could regulate the diversity and abundance of beneficial intestinal flora, among which 1% concentration is the best. The results of this study provide a theoretical and practical reference for the use of LST as a plant-derived feed additive in poultry production. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Lasia spinosa Thw., Guangxi
