Canine demodicosis,a stubborn skin disease in clinical veterinary due to its genetic characteristics,is caused by abnormal proliferation of Demodex mites under special skin conditions.Although demodicosis does not threaten the life of the dog,it may cause hair loss, itching and festering of skin, which seriously threatens the health of the dog.In recent years, the numbers of e pets, such as cats and dogs are raised, and the consciousness in human of the prevention of parasitic diseases has also been continuously improved.Shenyang city is one of the pet breeding areas.According to incomplete statistics, there are about 1.05 million dogs in Shenyang city(including breeding houses/farms).In this study, the epidemiology of canine demodicosis in Shenyang was investigated, including the prevalence, incidence and risk factors. In addition, three antiparasitic(such as doramectin, moxidectin and sarolaner)were used to for dogs with demodicosis, respectively, and combined with cefvecin sodium, apoquel and compound vitamin B Tablets. The effect of these drugs was assessed through observing the clinical symptoms and examining the number of demodicosis under microscopic. Moreover, various indexes and biochemical indexes in serum were measured to assess the effect on the liver, kidneys and immune function of these drugs. After epidemiological investigation, totally 420 dogs undergoing demodicosis from 20 large pet hospitals in Shenyang city within one year were included in the study. The incidence of demodicosis in Teddy dogs(9.52%),French bulldog(8.33%)and Corgi dogs(7.86%)is in a high prevalence. On the contrary, the incidence of demodicosis in Boxer(0.48%)and Lhasas dogs(0.24%)is relatively low.Considering the age of dogs, the incidence of demodicosis in younger than 2-year-old(33.33%),and dogs older than 9-year-old dogs(34.29%)is high.According to the frequency of deflea, dogs performed regular basis deflea(every month)(3.33%)showed the lowest incidence;dogs that have never been externally dewormed(39.76%),and been externally dewormed once a year(28.81%)showed higher incidence of demodicosis. In addition, contraceptive operation also affects the prevalence of demodicosis. The results showed that the prevalence in dogs who have not undergone contraceptive operation is 69.3%,but the prevalence of neutered dogs is 21.3%.finally,the season can also affect the incidence of demodicosis of dogs. The months with higher incidence were April-August(70.71%),and the highest incidence was July(18.81%).The results indicated that the skin lesions in dogs infecting demodicosis were significantly improved after treatment with doramectin, moxidectin or sarolaner, including reduced erythema, papules, alopecia, and pustules,as well as alleviated pigment deposition. Moreover, these three drugs could significantly reduce the number of demodicosis according to the results of deep skin scraping. In addition, these drugs have showed no significant effect on the blood routine and biochemical indicators(such as AST,ALT,ALP,TP,ALB,CRE and BUN).In conclusion, the occurrence of canine demodicosis is closely related to the breed, age, season, condition of lesions, and deworming frequency.Sarolaner, doramectin and moxidectin can effectively alleviate canine demodicosis without affecting the liver and kidney functions.
