Publication is one of the enlightenment tools for children to understand the world.In today's world of rapid development of digital publishing,children's AR publications,which use augmented reality technology and connect physical media with virtual world,are regarded as a new "children's reading revolution".At present,children's AR publications in China are developing rapidly and have great potential,but there are also some problems.How to reasonably apply augmented reality technology to children's AR publications is a topic worthy of discussion.This study explores the design optimization method of children's AR publications from the perspective of balanced cognitive load,and puts forward the design process of children's AR publications based on balanced cognitive load,aiming to provide reference for the design of children's AR publications,help the better development of children's AR publications and provide direction guidance and achievement reference for future research of such products.Taking preschool children aged 5-6 as the research object,this paper first combs the cognitive development characteristics of children in this age group,as well as the current situation and advantages of children's AR publications in China,and discusses the existing problems.And find out the relationship between the problem and children's cognitive load when reading,and then put forward the optimization method of children's AR publications design based on balanced cognitive load from the perspective of internal cognitive load,external cognitive load and related cognitive load.Then,according to the Publication AR Technology Application Specification for publications approved and released by the State Press and publication administration,combined with the design optimization method,summed up the design process of children's AR publications.The core of AR content design is divided into topic content design,basic element design,layout design,interaction design,multisensory combination and other parts to guide the design practice of children's AR publications.Finally,through the experiment,the design optimization method and process are applied to the practical topic of children's visual art education books,and the feasibility and accuracy of the research results are verified.
