A Comparative Study Of Heroic Images In Homer's Epic And The Book Of Songs

Hero stories are indispensable in the long river of myth,Legend and historical development.There are countless or moving or tragic heroic legends in the legends of countless nations.Heroes,a special group between God and Man,have the characteristics of multi-cultural elements,and is also an important part of cultural studies.The book of Songs and Homeric Hymns are both full of heroic writing.The differences in the basic tone of their texts fully show the differences between the Eastern and Western cultures."The book of Songs" and "Homeric Hymns" are the important literary works of the east and the west which were written in the same period,that is,the 11th century BC,as well as the important documents to study the early history of the different cultures of the east and the west.The book of Songs,on the other hand,is a collection of short,pithy poems,while Homeric Hymns is a long poem made up of Iliad and the Odyssey,but in the war,the ethics sentiment,the character image also has certain comparability.The comparative research results of the two extant poems mainly focus on the poetic literary technique,the text of the war poems,the aesthetic and cultural orientation,and there is much room for comparison.So this paper selects the heroic images of the two as the object of comparative study,Discusses how they reflect the aesthetic orientation of the poetry of different ethnic groups in China and ancient Greece,and further explores the causes of this cultural phenomenon.This paper is divided into five parts:the first part is the introduction,which briefly introduces the significance of the research topic,and analyzes the existing research results,which can be divided into epic comparison,war poetry comparison and cultural concept comparison,there's a lot of room for hero comparisons.The second part elaborates the text background and the representative heroes of Homeric Hymns,that is,Achilles,Hector,Odysseus and other heroes,using the method of literature analysis and combination to fully analyze the text of the poem,to sum up the three characteristics of the epic heroes and the cultural connotation of their symbols,that is,the heroes all have the outstanding origin and appearance,have a strong sense of personal honor and a calm acceptance of the fate.The third part narrates in detail the heroic characters in the book of songs,and divides them into three categories according to personal understanding:war hero,cultural hero and ancestor hero,on this basis,the author summarizes the characteristics and cultural connotation of the heroic images in The book of Songs.It can be found that all the heroic characters in the book of songs have established outstanding achievements closely related to people's daily life,its image is shrouded in a strong sense of realism.The fourth part compares the two,analyzes the similarities and differences between the hero in Homeric Hymns and the hero in The book of Songs,and focuses on the differences,which can be summarized as the differences between reality,romance and Sense and Sensibility,the reason of the difference was analyzed.The fifth part is the conclusion,carries on the summary to the full text.
