BackgroundResidents physicians refer to those who receive systematic and standardized training with the core of improving job competence at the training base recognized by the health administrative department.China began to implement the Synergy of medical education training model in 2015.It is in the deepening of the reform of the health care system and medical education under the background of the formation of Chinese Standardized Residency Training Program.Residents are facing both the transition from academic development to socialization, and the transition from medical students to qualified doctors. Therefore,it is necessary to understand the psychological and social behavior characteristics of this group, whether from their own growth or from the perspective of medical personnel training. In recent years, social capital has been increasingly incorporated into health research as a new perspective to explain the relationship between individuals and the environment in social action,to explore the impact of individual cognition and social behavior on mental health in the context of social networks. In addition, literature studies have found that the current medical education officials pay relatively little attention to the mental health of residents.Existing research is also very limited and needs to be improved in terms of tools, sample size and representativeness. When discussing which social capital elements play a positive role in mental health, the existing research conclusions are not completely consistent.ObjectiveTo understand the mental health status of residents, and to find the main problems in the mental health of this group. On the basis of discussing the elements of the social capital of the residents, this paper proves the protective effect of social capital on mental health, and provides empirical data support for exploring more accurate safeguard measures to relieve the mental pressure of residents.MethodsThe two-stage stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to select residents from 5 national training bases in Beijing as the research objects.A total of 1031 questionnaires were distributed, and 977 valid questionnaires were recovered, with the effective recovery rate of 94.76%.According to the particularity of residents,on the basis of structural social capital(including social network and social participation elements)and cognitive social capital(including trust and reciprocity elements),conduct exploratory factor analysis through social capital measurement methods to formulate a social capital measurement questionnaire to explore the social capital content.Use SPSS 24.0 for statistical analysis.Shapiro-wilk test was used to test the normality of the measurement data.Descriptive statistics, independent sample non-parametric test and chi-square test were used for current situation analysis and difference test on social capital and mental health.Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the quality of social capital model fitting and to test its reliability and validity.Spearman rank correlation analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were used to explore the relationship between social capital and mental health.Results1.The mental health status of the residents is not very optimistic.43.60%of the residents reported that there were at least four symptoms.70.42%said they could not face up to the problems they encountered,62.23%felt unable to overcome the difficulties,45.96%felt worthless,31.83%felt low or depressed, and 27.64%said they were stressed for a long time.Difference analysis found that the rate of positive mental health detection among college the residents was nearly six percentage points higher than that of residents(x2=3.999,P=0.046).2.The social capital measurement questionnaire has high reliability and validity, and the residents' social capital is generally well.Among the structural social capital elements:the average daily network size is 18.56,the network diversity is 5.44,and the network ceiling is 90.87;the scores of participating in public affairs(3.76±1.39)are higher than the average.Among the elements of cognitive social capital:residents have the highest degree of trust in relatives and friends, followed by colleagues and classmates in the hospital, and most people in the society. The scores on the four reciprocal observation indicators are higher than the average.Difference analysis found that the household registration system and educational opportunities have obvious advantages in the formation of social networks and accumulation of social capital.3.There was a significant correlation between social capital and mental health. In the study, there was a significant strong correlation between structural social capital and mental health(r=0.839,P<0.001).The higher the residents' social network and participation level, the better the mental health status. The correlation between cognitive social capital(trust factor and reciprocity factor)and mental health is very weak(r1=0.157,r2=0.116).Single factor analysis found that residents with poor mental health often have a low level of structural social capital, and residents with good mental health are more likely to have a high level of structural social capital(?2=706.285,P=0.001).Binary Logistic regression analysis showed that after controlling for the influence of other covariables the protective effect of structural social capital on unhealthy mental states is still significant(OR=0.003,95%CI:0.002?0.006).Conclusion1.The mental health of the residents is not optimistic and needs urgent attention.Quite a few residents have some problems and difficulties in adapting to changes, maintaining reasonable cognition,self-consciousness and maintaining emotional stability.2.The social capital level of the residents is generally good, they are at a high level in social network, trust and reciprocity elements, but the enthusiasm of social participation(especially in participating in associations and organizations)is not high.3.Social capital is positively correlated with mental health. The structural social capital of the residents has a positive role in promoting the level of mental health, alleviating and improving adverse mental states.
