ObjectivesTo investigate the level of illness uncertainty of fathers of preterm infants hospitalized in NICU,analyze the relevant influencing factors of illness uncertainty of fathers of preterm infants, and explain the correlation between illness uncertainty level of fathers of preterm infants and their coping styles and social support; And in-depth analysis of the source of illness uncertainty of the father of preterm infants and the countermeasures taken,in order to provide a theoretical basis for clinical medical staff to implement effective intervention measures and reduce the illness uncertainty of the father of preterm infants.Methods1.Quantitative study:By convenience sampling method, the fathers of premature infants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected as the research objects.General social demographic data questionnaire,Chinese version of parents’uncertainty scale for illness, simplified coping style questionnaire and social support rating scale were used as research tools.Spss20.0 software was used for data statistics and analysis.Frequency, constituent ratio, mean and standard deviation were used to describe the relevant data.Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the differences of illness uncertainty among the subjects with different socio demographic characteristics.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the coping style, social status and illness uncertainty of fathers of premature infants.Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of father’s illness uncertainty of premature infants.2.Qualitative research:Objective sampling method was used to select the representative fathers of premature infants whose total score of illness uncertainty was more than 70 in quantitative research as the research object.Face to face semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the interview data were analyzed and sorted by Colaizzi seven step analysis method.Results1.The total score of illness uncertainty among fathers of premature infants in NICU was(77.54 ± 10.25).The average score of the four dimensions was unpredictability(3.05±0.60),information deficiency(2.81±0.56),uncertainty(2.79± 0.48)and complexity(2.59 ± 0.45),respectively.2.The scores of positive coping and negative coping were 25.28 ± 5.66 and 9.40± 4.08 respectively.3.The total score of social support of fathers of premature infants in NICU is 42.58± 4.36,the score of objective support dimension is 10.53±3.02,the score of subjective support dimension is 24.10± 4.34,and the score of utilization of support dimension is 8.03± 1.77.4.The results of one-way ANOVA showed that there were significant differences in the father’s illness uncertainty of preterm infants with different education, residence, occupation, family type, family monthly income and different gestational age and birth weight(P<0.05).5.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the social support, objective support, subjective support, positive coping style and illness uncertainty of the father of NICU were negatively correlated(P<0.01),while the negative coping style was positively correlated with illness uncertainty(P<0.01).6.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that negative coping, gestational age, education level, positive coping and subjective support entered the regression equation, explaining 30.7%variation of the father’s illness uncertainty of premature infants.7.The main theme of qualitative research is around two parts:①Sources of illness uncertainty of fathers of premature infants in NICU:disease status, prognosis and social factors.② The coping measures of illness uncertainty of fathers of premature infants in NICU:actively learning relevant knowledge, actively seeking social support and adaptation.Conclusions1.The Fathers of premature infants in NICU generally have a high level of illness uncertainty, which is mainly reflected in the two dimensions of unpredictability and lack of information.2.Coping style, social support and general demographic data were the main factors influencing the level of illness uncertainty among fathers of premature infants in NICU.3.Negative coping;education level, gestational age of preterm infants, positive coping and subjective support can significantly predict the level of illness uncertainty of fathers of premature infants in NICU.4.Medical staff should pay attention to the experience of illness uncertainty of fathers of premature infants in NICU,and take targeted intervention measures to reduce the level of illness uncertainty and promote their physical and mental health.
