Objective:This study was designed to explore whether pretreatment of prealbumin to globulin ratio(PGR)is associated with the prognosis and chemotherapy outcomes of first-line chemotherapy in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Methods : The data of 281 cases of unresectable gastric cancer were investigated retrospectively.First, the cut-off value of PGR was determined by ROC curve analysis, and then the relationship between PGR and chemotherapy efficacy was analyzed by Chi-square test. The Kaplan-Meier method was then used to plot progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)and multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify factors that predicted mortality. Results:The cut-off value of PGR was determined to be 7.21 in this study, which indicated that the disease control rate(DCR)in the high PGR(≥7.21)group was higher than that in the low PGR group(93.66%vs.78.42%,P<0.001).Survival curves showed higher median PFS(189vs.125 days,P<0.001)and OS(350vs.288 days,P<0.001)in the high PGR group.Multivariate analysis indicated that PFS(HR: 0.672,P<0.001)and OS(HR: 0.675,P=0.002)in high PGR group were the independent protective factors for advanced gastric cancer. Conclusion : PGR before chemotherapy can accurately predict the chemotherapy efficacy,PFS and OS of patients with advanced gastric cancer. Therefore,PGR can be used as a brand new and reliable indicator to help clinicians measure the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.
