Objective: uric acid has protective function in nervous system because of its antioxidant capacity. However,as a risk factor of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, high uric acid is also considered as a toxic agent of cognitive function. In recent years, the relationship and mechanism between uric acid and cognitive function have been widely studied. In this study,we quantitatively evaluated the cognitive function of patients with subcortical ischemic cerebrovascular disease(SIVD)by using cognitive function assessment scale, and analyzed the relationship between cognitive function and serum uric acid level in patients with SIVD,so as to provide guidance for the prevention of early cognitive dysfunction in patients with SIVD.Methods: a total of 133 SIVD patients(56 males and 77 females)admitted to the general ward of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from October 2018 to October 2020 were enrolled in the study. The cognitive function was quantified by neuropsychological scale, and all clinical data were collected, including demographic and sociological factors, such as age, gender and education level;Other general information included height and weight, blood pressure, history of hypertension, diabetes, stroke, coronary heart disease, gout and other serious medical diseases, smoking and drinking history; The subjects completed the blood uric acid, fasting blood glucose, blood lipid test, and recorded the results of carotid artery examination. Objective to explore the relationship between serum uric acid and cognitive function. Results: among 133 SIVD patients,60(36 females,24 males)had cognitive impairment, the average age was 67.257.71,73(41 females,32 males)had normal cognitive function, and the average age was 65.075.53.The UA value of cognitive impairment group was(344.25 2 ± 55)was significantly higher than that of normal cognitive function group(283.67 81 ± 86),the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Age,BMI,UA,LDL-C and carotid atherosclerosis were negatively correlated with cognitive function, while education level was positively correlated with cognitive function(P < 0.05);Other blood lipid indexes, blood pressure, smoking and drinking had no significant correlation with cognitive function(P > 0.05).The scores of visuospatial function, memory and delayed memory, and language direction in MOCA were negatively correlated with uric acid(P < 0.05).Conclusion: in SIVD population, the increase of uric acid level is correlated with the decline of cognitive function, mainly in the visual space, memory and language.Controlling the increase of uric acid level may have a protective effect on cognitive function.
