Objectives:To investigate the biomechanical properties of a new internal fixation method for transverse fracture of patella and to provide biomechanical basis for it’s subsequent clinical trials.Methods:6 numbered frozen knee joint specimens were randomly divided into 2 groups(n = 3,the experimental group and control group),using pendulum saw cutting across the specimens to make the patellar transverse fracture models. The control group’ specimens adopted the traditional technology of AO tension band fixation to fix the fracture, and the other specimens in experimental group adopted the new internal fixation method, then placed all the specimens on a home-made experimental fixture.Using a biomechanical test machine to simulate the motion trajectory from 0 ° to90 °of the knee joint, after a 100-cycle all the fracture displacement of the specimens were recorded and then statistical compared. Results:After a 100-cycle tests, the mean displacement and standard deviation of all specimens in the experimental group were about 1.94 and 0.12,and in the control group they were 1.99 and 0.08.The difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P=0.61).Conclusion:Through the experiment, the biomechanical strength’ s difference between this new internal fixation method and the traditional AO tension band technique for transverse patella fracture were not statistically significant, and this new internal fixation method can meet the requirements of strong fixation.
