| Objective The objectives of this study were 1)to evaluate psychological state(anxiety, depression)of caregivers of stroke-related sarcopenia patients;2)to figure out the factors influencing the psychological state(anxiety, depression)of caregivers;3)to explore the relationship among muscle strength of stroke-related sarcopenia patients, caregivers’ psychological state(anxiety, depression),social support and quality of life. Methods In this study,366 stroke-related sarcopenia patients and their primary caregivers who met the criteria were included in this study. The general questionnaire and the Modified Barthel Index Scale(MBI)were used for the stroke-related sarcopenia patients.the caregiver general questionnaire, the primary caregiver burden scale(Zarit Burden Interview,ZBI),the Zung self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),the Zung self-rating depression scale(SDS),the Mos 36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36)and the social support rating scale(SSRS)were used for the primary caregivers of stroke-related sarcopenia patients. The consent forms were obtained prior to commencement of the study.SPSS 23.0(SPSS Inc.,Chicago,Illinois,USA)was used for statistical analysis.Descriptive analyses were reported as percentage and means ± standard deviations.Univariate analysis in general linear model and multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the factors affecting the psychological state of the primary caregivers of stroke-related sarcopenia patients.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationships among muscle strength of patients, psychological state social support and quality of life of primary caregivers.Significance level was set at p < 0.05.Results1.A total of 377 questionnaires were sent out and 366 ones were effectively received, the recovery rate was 97.1%.2.The average score of caregivers’ anxiety was 45.24±7.08.There were 273non-anxious caregivers, accounting for 74.6%,and 93 anxious caregivers, accounting for 25.4%.The mean score for depression was 47.76±6.70.Non-depressed caregivers were 238(65%)and depressed caregivers were 128(35%).The incidence rate of anxiety and depression in primary caregivers of stroke-related sarcopenia patients was 25.4% and 35% respectively.3.The results of the multivariate regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of primary caregiver’ psychological state were Zarit Burden Interview(ZBI),quality of life, sex, the length of care, know the situation of disease(p < 0.05).The time of after stroke, age of patients, days of hospitalization, whether they received professional rehabilitation guidance, age of primary caregivers, gender of caregivers, relationship with patients, marital status, working status, current occupation, education level, time of care,SSRS total score were not correlated with anxiety and depression of caregivers(P > 0.05).The type of disease, total MBI score, payment method and perceived health status were only significantly correlated with anxiety(P < 0.05),and the economic income was only significantly correlated with depression(P < 0.05).4.Correlation analysis showed that psychological state(anxiety and depression)was significantly negatively correlated with quality of life(P < 0.001),and the total score of social support(P < 0.01).The total score of social support was positively correlated with quality of life(P < 0.01).There was no significant correlation among muscle strength of healthy side of stroke-related sarcopenia patients, and psychological state, social support and quality of life of primary caregivers(P > 0.05).Conclusion1.The mood and burden of the primary caregivers of stroke patients with sarcopenia are not optimistic.2.Caring burden, quality of life, gender of patients, length of care and understanding of the disease are important factors related to the psychological state of caregivers(anxiety and depression).Caregivers’ care burden and care time are positively correlated with anxiety and depression. The quality of life, the gender of the patients and the knowledge of the disease were negatively correlated with anxiety and depression.3.Psychological state of primary caregivers was significantly correlated with social support and quality of life, and social support was significantly correlated with quality of life, while muscle strength on the healthy side of stroke patients with sarcopenia was not correlated with psychological state, social support and quality of life of primary caregivers... |
