ObjectiveThis study investigates the status of nurses’ depression, anxiety, and stress. It analyzes the relationship between emotion regulation strategies, need for cognitive closure and negative emotions for providing a theoretical basis for nurses’ negative emotion intervention research, and promotes nurses’ mental health.MethodsThis study used the convenience sampling method to conduct a questionnaire survey of 236 on-the-job nurses in tertiary general hospitals in Hubei Province from October 2020 to December 2020.The questionnaires included general information questionnaires,Gross Emotion Regulation strategy Questionnaires,Need for Closure Scale, and the simplified Chinese version of Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale.Statistical analysis using SPSS25.0software,including descriptive statistics,Mann-Whitney U test,Kruskal-Wallis H test,Spearman correlation analysis,Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis and other statistical methods.Results1.The proportion of nurses experiencing depression is 28.39%,anxiety is 38.14%,and stress is 20.34%.2.According to a single factor analysis of non-parametric tests, the total negative emotion score of nurses was affected by the time spent on the internet, depressed disease history of lineal relatives, sleep quality and employment modality(P<0.05).The factors that affect depression scores include the time spent on the internet, depressed disease history of lineal relatives, and employment modality(P<0.05);anxiety score factors include the habit of sleeping late / staying up late, the time on line, depressed disease history of lineal relatives, anxiety disease history of lineal relatives, employment modality and emotional life status(P<0.05);stress score is affected by the time on line, depressed disease history of lineal relatives, sleep quality, employment modality and the number of night shift(P<0.05).3.The overall negative emotion is significantly negatively correlated with the cognitive reassessment strategy of emotion regulation strategies, and significantly positively correlated with the expression suppression strategy(P<0.01).Depression,anxiety,and stress were significantly negatively correlated with cognitive reappraisal strategies, and depression, anxiety, and expression inhibition were significantly positively correlated(P<0.01).4.The overall negative emotion with the need for cognitive closure overall,ambiguity,closed-mindedness,predictability,decisiveness are significantly positively correlated(P<0.01).Depression,anxiety,stress with the need for cognitive closure overall,ambiguity,closed-mindedness,predictability,decisiveness are significantly positively correlated(P<0.01),and stress is also positively correlated with order preference(P<0.05).5.The cognitive reappraisal score of nurses could significantly negatively predict nurses’ depression, anxiety and stress scores.Expression suppression score of nurses could significantly positively predict nurses’ depression, anxiety and stress scores.Need for cognitive closure score could significantly positively predict nurses’ depression, anxiety and stress scores.Conclusion1.The nurses have high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress.2.Nurses’ negative emotions are affected by the habit of sleeping late / staying up late, the time on line, depressed disease history of lineal relatives, anxiety disease history of lineal relatives, sleep quality, employment modality, emotional life status and the number of night shift.3.The emotion regulation strategies preference of most nurses’ is cognitive reassessment strategies.4.Most nurses have a low level of cognitive closure needs.5.Cognitive reappraisal is negatively correlated with depression, anxiety and stress, and expression inhibition is positively correlated with depression and anxiety.6.High need for cognitive closure indicates the risk of depression, anxiety, and stress.
