Clinical Research Of Self-Made Xifeng Huatan Decoction In The Treatment For Children With Tourette Syndrome(Phlegm Dampness Blocked Orifices And Liver-Wind Stirring Pattern)

Objective:Through the controlled study between the self-made formula named Xifeng Huatan Decoction and an oral Chinese patent medicine Changma Xifeng tablet in the treatment of children with Tourette syndrome in phlegm dampness blocked orifices and liver-wind stirring pattern,observe and evaluate clinical efficacy of the self-made Xifeng Huatan Decoction.Methods:60 children who visited the outpatient clinic of our hospital and met diagnosis criteria of Tourette syndrome in phlegm dampness blocked orifices and liver-wind stirring pattern were selected and randomized into experimental group(n=30)and control group(n=30).Children in experimental group were given self-made Xifeng Huatan decoction and children in the control received Changma Xifeng tablets.All children received treatment for 8 weeks.Conditions of all children were assessed by Yale Global Tic Severity Scale and TCM syndrome scale before and after treatment.Results:1.Overall efficiency: Total effective rate for treatment group and control group was 90.00% and 83.33% respectively,with significant difference between 2 groups(P<0.05).Total effective rate assessed by TCM scale for treatment group and control group were 93.33% and 80.00%respectively,with greatly significant difference(P<0.05)between 2 groups.2.Comparison within groups: Children in the two groups were compared before and after medication by themselves.In the YGTSS scale,motor tics,vocal tics,total score decreased with greatly significant difference;meanwhile principal syndrome,secondary syndrome and total scores in TCM scale also decreased with great difference(P<0.01).3.Comparison between groups: After treatment,scores of indicators in YGTSS scale and principal syndrome,secondary syndrome and total scores in TCM scale were significantly different(P<0.05).4.Safety: No adverse events occurred during treatment.Conclusion:1.Compared with Changma Xifeng tablet,the curative effect of Self-made Xifeng Huatan Decoction on children with tourette syndrome was better,it can significantly improve the YGTSS motor tics,vocal tics and total score in children.2.Self-made Xifeng Huatan Decoction is better than Changma Xifeng tablet in improving TCM syndromes,especially in relieving children’s tic,reducing phlegm in throat and alleviating anger.3.It is safe and effective to treat children with multiple twitching disorder,phlegm dampness block orifices,liver-wind stirring syndrome,which is worth popularizing in clinical application.
