| Objective:The present case–control study mainly discussed the personality characteristics of patients with genuine halitosis and its relationship with anxiety, social disorder and other psychological conditions. Methods:Patients diagnosed with genuine halitosis in the clinic were included in the halitosis group, and healthy people diagnosed with halitosis were included in the control group.Halitosis test and questionnaire were conducted in the two groups.Among them, the questionnaire survey includes the Social demographic situation of the research object,Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ),Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(SAD)and Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI).SPSS 22.0 was used for statistical analysis of the obtained data. Results:A total of 186 patients(93 in the halitosis group and 93 in the control group)were included in this study. The results showed that the score of halitosis group was lower than that of control group on the Extraversion subscale of EPQ(P<0.01).There were also statistically significant differences between the two groups in social avoidance score and social distress score(P=0.013,P<0.001).Pearson correlation coefficient was used to find that there was a negative correlation between Extraversion subscale and SAD scale(r_s=-0.635,P<0.001),a positive correlation between the Neuroticism subscale of EPQ and SAD scale(r_s=0.313,P<0.001),and a positive weak correlation between Neuroticism subscale and BAI value(r_s=0.261,P<0.001).Conclusion:This study found that the personality characteristics of genuine halitosis patients are introverted, and their personality characteristics are related to the psychological state. The more introverted subjects were also more likely to have social avoidance and social distress, and the more emotionally unstable the subjects were more likely to have anxiety, social avoidance and social distress. These results suggest that in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of halitosis,we should pay attention to the personality characteristics of the patients. |
