A Study On The Characteristics Of Pulse Conditions In The Dunhuang Posthumous Manuscripts

Objective: To systematically organize the pulse diagnosis documents in the Dunhuang manuscripts,analyze the characteristics of the pulse manifestation documents in the Dunhuang manuscripts,compare the pulse descriptions in the Dunhuang manuscripts and handed down documents,and explore the development of pulse diagnosis in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,in order to better guide the modern pulse diagnosis Diagnosis and learning.Methods:Taking pictures of the original Dunhuang posthumous books(International Dunhuang Project website)as basic research materials,refer to The Complete Book of Dunhuang Traditional Chinese Medicine(《敦煌中医药全书》),Practical Dunhuang Medicine(《实用敦煌医学》),Examination and Research of Ancient Medical Books Unearthed in China(《中国出土古医书考释与研究》),New Collection of Dunhuang Turfan Medical Documents(《敦煌吐鲁番医药文献新辑校》),and other Dunhuang medical research books,and many scholars’journals and papers on Dunhuang medical literature research results.Using document retrieval method,induction method,research method,analysis and comparison method,etc.,systematically sort out the pulse documents in Dunhuang posthumous writings and analyze their characteristics.Results: 1.There are 21 types of manuscripts related to pulse diagnosis in the Dunhuang manuscripts now available,which are an indispensable part of the Dunhuang medical literature.Mainly hidden in Britain,France,and Russia.The British Library has a total of 7volumes,namely: S.202,S.5614,S.6245,S.8289,S.9431,S.9443,and S.10527.The National Library of Paris,France has 7 volumes,namely: P.2115,P.3106,P.3287,P.3477,P.3481,P.3655,P.4093.The St.Petersburg branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences has a total of 7 volumes after the latest textual research: Дх02869A,Дх06150,Дх08644,Дх00613V,Дх09319,Дх16882,Дх18168.2.Modern and contemporary scholars have catalogued,postscripts,collated,and verified this part of the literature,and it has taken shape.The content includes Shanghan Lun·Bianmaifa(《伤寒论·辨脉法》),Suwen·Sanbujiuhoulun(《素问·三部九候论》),Suwen·Pingrenqixianglun(《素问·平人气象论》),Mai Jing(《脉经》)and other parts of the medical books handed down.In addition,the handed down medical books and records,such as Ping Mai Lue Li(《平脉略例》),Xuan Gan Mai Jing(《玄感脉经》),Qi Biao Ba Li San Bu Mai(《七表八里三部脉》),and Qing Wu Zi Mai Jue(《青乌子脉诀》)are collected pulse literatures.3.The are three parts involving descriptions of the pulse condition in Dunhuang manuscripts,including Ping Mai Lue Li(《平脉略例》)in Volume S.5614,Wangmingshi Maijing Di’erzhong(《亡名氏脉经第二种》)in Volume P.3287,and Xuan Gan Mai Jing(《玄感脉经》)in Volume P.3477.Ping Mai Lue Li and Wangmingshi Maijing Di’erzhong each records 19types of pulses respectively,inclucing floating,faint,sinking,vomiting,stringing,tight,slippery,counting,rushing("soft"is used as rushing in Wangmingshi Maijing Di’erzhong),weak,astringent,slow,empty,strong,solid,firm,and thin.The description of the pulse conditions is self-contained.The description of the main diseases of the pulse conditions takes the pulse as the outline and the three parts of Cun-guan-chi as the main purpose.Xuan Gan Mai Jing records 23 kinds of pulses,there are floating,stringing,slippery,solid,leathery,dynamic,sinking,astringent,tight,flat,sluggish,weak,late,thick,fast,thin,slow,weak,soft,promoting,micro,knot,and 6 kinds of strange pulses:leaking,pecking,bouncing stone,resolving,shrimp swimming,and fish flying.The descriptions of pulse conditions are mostly the same as those of Qian Jin Yi Fang(《千金翼方》).It also contains the three channels of deep-sited pulse,soft pulse,and tympanic pulse in the Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Gang(《备急千金要方》).It should be the summary of the above two books.Conclusion:The pulse diagnosis documents in Dunhuang manuscripts fully reflect the development level of pulse diagnosis in the Sui and Tang dynasties.They absorb the essence of pulse studies in Suwen(《素问》)and Nanjing(《难经》).The pulse diagnosis theory is solid and the content is self-contained.The pulse condition is vivid metaphor,pulse position description is in place,pulse shape expression is accurate,and its expression in pulse position,pulse rate,pulse potential,pulse sense,etc.is more complete and accurate.It is a masterpiece in pulse studies.
