Background and Purpose:Previous studies have shown that ankle proprioception has a significant correlation with athletes’ competitive level in lower-limb dominant sports such as football and volleyball. However, the role of ankle proprioception in the performance of upper-limb dominant sports, such as table tennis,is still unclear. In addition, most of the evaluation of proprioceptive function does not involve the dual-task test mode related to exercise. Therefore,it is difficult to reflect the true proprioceptive function state of the brain in multitasking situations. At the same time, many studies have shown that injury of the lower limbs can lead to a decline in proprioception. However, the impact of sports injuries on proprioception in dual-tasking is still unclear, and it is unclear whether lower limb sports injuries have an impact on the performance of upper-limb dominant sports. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to:1)explore the characteristics of ankle proprioception of young professional table tennis players under different task states(single task and dual task);2)Explore the correlation between ankle proprioception and performance of stroke under different task states;3)Explore the impact of lower limb sports injury on ankle proprioception and stroke performance of young professional table tennis players. It is expected to provide a reference for the specialized training, sports injury and rehabilitation of young table tennis players. Methods:This study used Active Movement Extent Discrimination Apparatus(AMEDA)for ankle proprioception test, and randomly tested under three different task conditions:single-task AMEDA test(Single-A),dual-task forehand Attack AMEDA test(Dual-FA)and dual-task forehand loop AMEDA test(Dual-FL).Record the hitting scores of different hitting techniques under the dual-task test. This article is divided into two studies:Study 1:29 young professional table tennis players were recruited, and the repeated measure analysis of variance(MANOVA)was used to analyze the differences in ankle proprioception under different task conditions.Spearman correlation was used to analyze the correlation between factors such as age, training years, ankle proprioception under different tasks, and specific performance.Study 2:A total of 13 young professional table tennis players who have suffered lower extremity injuries in the past year and 13 matched athletes without lower extremity injuries were included.Repeated measure analysis of variance(MANOVA)were used to analyze and compare the differences in the ankle joint proprioception and stroke performance between the two groups,as well as the differences in the performance of the two groups under two dual-task tests. Results:Study 1:Repeated measures analysis of variance results showed that the ankle proprioception under the single-task AMEDA test(Single-A)was significantly better than the ankle proprioception under the two dual-task tests(F28=69.14,p<0.001,η2=0.71).The post-hoc test showed that there was no significant difference in the proprioception of the ankle joint under the two dual-task tests of different difficulties(p>0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the hit rates of Dual-FA and Dual-FL were significantly related to the ankle proprioception tested under three different task conditions(r=0.395-0.659,all P<0.05).In addition, training years were significantly positively correlated with the hit rate of Dual-FA(r=0.580,p<0.01)and Dual-FL(r=0.673,p<0.01)and the ankle proprioception under the three tests(r=0.403-0.674,all p<0.05).Age was significantly positively correlated with the ankle proprioception under the single-task test(Single-A)and the dual-task forehand test(Dual-FA)(r=0.473,p<0.01;r=0.534,p<0.01),But there is no significant correlation between age and the ankle proprioception under the dual-task forehand loop test(Dual-FL)(p>0.05).Study 2:Repeated measurement analysis of variance for the ankle joint proprioception in the lower extremity injury group and the no lower extremity injury group showed that the main effect was the AMEDA test condition(F=63.93,p<0.001,η2=0.74),and there was no interaction effect(F=1.95,p>0.05).The post-mortem test showed that the proprioception of the ankle joint in the lower extremity injury group of the single task test was significantly better than that of the no lower extremity injury group(p<0.05);between the two groups, the performance under the single task test was significantly better than the dual task test, while the double task test There is no significant difference between task test performance(p>0.05).The two-factor repeated measurement variance showed that under the two dual-task tests, there was no significant difference in the hit rate, scoring rate, and total score between athletes with lower limb injuries and athletes without lower limb injuries(p>0.05).Conclusion:(1)Ankle joint proprioception and hit rate under different task conditions are significantly correlated, suggesting that ankle joint proprioception plays an important role in table tennis performance. In the training of table tennis players, increase the dual-task lower ankle Joint proprioception may have a positive meaning for improving sports performance.(2)The correlation between age, years of exercise and proprioception found in this study suggests that ankle proprioception can be improved through training during adolescent development.(3)The performance of the ankle joint proprioception in the dual-task state is significantly lower than that in the single-task test, indicating that when the brain processes multiple tasks at the same time, the ankle j oint proprioception will be affected, and this effect may increase the risk of ankle joint injury.(4)The proprioception of athletes with a history of lower extremity sports injuries is significantly lower than that of athletes without a history of injury in the single task state, indicating that sports injuries will affect lower limb proprioception. Therefore,it should be regarded as one of the goals of rehabilitation and should be paid attention to and actively intervened. At the same time, the single-task AMEDA test can be used to quantitatively study the ankle joint proprioception defect.(5)In the dual-task state, there is no significant difference between the ankle proprioception of athletes with and without history of injury, suggesting that the dual-task AMEDA test may have a floor effect. Therefore,it is impossible to distinguish the difference of ankle proprioception measured with or without a history of injury. In summary, there is a significant correlation between young professional table tennis players’ ankle proprioception and sports performance. Therefore, through targeted training to train proprioception in different task states and use AMEDA to evaluate athletes with lower extremity injuries, and formulate corresponding intervention programs, which may improve sports performance and prevent and recover lower extremity injuries. It is of great significance.
