Objective1.To investigate the status quo of nurses’ compassion fatigue,work engagement psychological capital and presenteeism.2.To analyze the influencing factors of nurses’ presenteeism.3.To explore the relationship between the four variables by building a structural equation model.4.It might provide reference for relieving nurses’ presenteeism and reducing the occurrence of nursing accidents,so as to promote the nurses’ work engagement and actively adjust nurses’ working pressure in order to achieve the goals of improving the quality of clinical nursing service,maintaining the stability of the nursing team and promoting the sustainable development of nursing.MethodsUsing the convenience sampling method,476 nurses from five tertiary hospitals and five secondary hospitals in guangdong province were selected as the research subjects.The general information questionnaire,the Chinese version of compassion fatigue short scale(C-CF-Short Scale),the Stanford Presenteeism Scale(SPS-6),the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale(UWES-9)and Psychological Capital Questionnaire were used for data collection.SPSS 20.0 software and AMOS 24.0 software were used to perform statistical analysis of the data.The counting data was described by frequency and percentage,and the measurement data were described by mean and standard deviation.Independent-sample T-test or One-way ANOVA were used to compare the score differences of sociodemographic variables in compassion fatigue,work engagement,psychological capital and presenteeism.The correlation of the four variables was analyzed by Pearson correlation text.Multiple stepwise regression was applied to analyze the effects of sociodemographic variables,compassion fatigue,work engagement and psychological capital on presenteeism.Using the hierarchical regression analysis method to conduct a preliminary test of the mediating effect of work engagement and psychological capital between compassion fatigue and presenteeism.AMOS 24.0 software was used to establish structural equation hypothesis model to further verify the mediating role of work engagement and psychological capital between compassion fatigue and presenteeism,and analyze the influence path among compassion fatigue,work engagement,psychological capital and presenteeism.Results1.The total score of nurses’ compassion fatigue was 46.67±22.88,and the average of items was 3.59±1.76.According to the average score of each dimension,burnout and secondary trauma were ranked from high to low.The total score of nurses’ work engagement was 33.34±14.67,and the item scores were 3.70±1.63.The average score of the items in the three dimensions from high to low were attention,vitality and dedication.The total score of nurses’psychological capital was 86.44±17.05,and the items were equally divided into 4.32±0.85,the scores of the dimensions from high to low,hope,self-efficacy,toughness and optimism.The total score of presenteeism in nurses was 15.91±5.51,and the item scores were 2.65±0.92.The low presenteeism group accounted for 48.9%(233 cases),and the high presenteeism group accounted for 51.1%(243 cases).2.There were statistically significant differences in the scores of nurses’ compassion fatigue in the age,marital status,number of children,monthly night shift and job satisfaction(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the scores of nurses’work engagement in marital status,number of children,monthly night shift and job satisfaction(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the scores of nurses’psychological capital in age,working years,professional title,marital status,number of children,monthly night shift and job satisfaction(P<0.05).There was statistical significance in the scores of nurses’ presenteeism in the monthly night shift and job satisfaction(P<0.05).3.The total score of nurses’ compassion fatigue and each dimension score were positively correlated with the total score of presenteeism,with the correlation coefficient between 0.361 and 0.445(P<0.01);the total score of nurses’ work engagement and each dimension score were negatively correlated with the total score of presenteeism,with the correlation coefficient between 0.358 and 0.456(P<0.01);the total score of nurses’psychological capital and each dimension score were negatively correlated with the total score of presenteeism,with the correlation coefficient between 0.419 and 0.467(P<0.01).4.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that job satisfaction,psychological capital and work engagement had a negative predictive effect on presenteeism,and compassion fatigue had a positive predictive effect on presenteeism.The four variables accounted for 35.2%of the variation of presenteeism.5.Psychological capital played a partial intermediary role between compassion fatigue and presenteeism,and the mediation effect accounted for 22.7%of the total effect;work engagement played a partial intermediary role between compassion fatigue and presenteeism,and the mediation effect accounted for 5.3%of the total effect;psychological capital and work engagement had a chain-mediation effect between compassion fatigue and presenteeism,and the mediation effect accounted for 12.8%of the total effect.Conclusion1.The incidence of presenteeism among nurses is relatively high,there is a certain degree of compassion fatigue,and psychological capital and work engagement are at a medium level,which is a more room for improvement.2.The more serious the compassion fatigue of nurses,the higher the risk of presenteeism;the higher the level of nurses’ psychological capital and the higher the level of work engagement,the lower the risk of presenteeism.3.Job satisfaction,compassion fatigue,psychological capital and work engagement are the main factors affecting nurses’ presenteeism.4.There is a pairwise correlation among nurses’ compassion fatigue,psychological capital,work engagement,and presenteeism.Nurses’ compassion fatigue can not only directly affect presenteeism,but also indirectly affect presenteeism through psychological capital and work engagement respectively.Nurses’ compassion fatigue indirectly affect presenteeism through the chain mediating effect of psychological capital and work engagement.
