| Objective: To observe the clinical effectiveness and safety of combining Chinese traditional medicine Piqing Decoction with a 595 nm pulsed dye laser in the treatment of rosacea with lung-stomach heat syndrome.Methods: According to the random number table method,99 patients with rosacea inthe heat syndrome of lung-stomach were divided into treatment group,laser control group and TCM control groupwith 33 cases each.The treatment group was treated with 595 nm pulsed dye laser combined with oral administration of Piqing decoction,while the TCM control group was only treated with Puqing Decoction,and the laser control group was treated with 595 nm pulse dye laser.Four weeks was a course of treatment,with one visit every two weeks,.Skin lesions scores,TCM syndromes scores,VISIA scores and DLQI scores were evaluated at baseline and 4and 8weeks.Results:1.A total of 99 cases were enrolled in this subject,and 94 clinical observations were completed.One case was eliminated from the three groups,and one case was dropped from the control group and the treatment group.2.Before treatment,there was no statistical difference between the treatment group and the two control groups in gender,age,course of disease,TCM syndrome score,VISIA score,DLQI score,and skin lesion score(P>0.05),and they were comparable.3.In terms of TCM syndromes,the three groups could improve TCM syndromes at 4 and 8 weeks after treatment.A significant reduction of score of TCM syndromess was found in the treatment group,lower than 2control groups.And the score of TCM control group was lower than the laser control group(P<0.05).4.DLQI score: After treatment,all three groups had a lower DLQI score(P<0.05),the treatment group’s score was comparatively lower than the two other control groups(P<0.05).There was no major differencebetween the two other control groups(P>0.05).5.VISIA score: All the three groups could reduce DLQI score after the treatment(P<0.05),the score of the treatment group was significantly lower than that of the two control groups(P<0.05),and the laser control group was better than that of the TCM control group.6.Skin lesions score: At 4 and 8 weeks after treatment,each symptom score of treatment group are lower than the two groups of control group(P<0.05).The improvement degree of telangiectasia in TCM control group was lower than that in treatment group and laser control group,and the improvement of erythema,papule pustules,pruritus and dryness in laser control group was lower than that in treatment group and TCM control group.7.After treatment,the total effective rates of the treatment group,the TCM control group and the laser control group were 93.55%,80.65% and 78.13%,respectively.The treatment group was superior to the TCM control group and the laser control group(P<0.05).8.Treatment group had 1 case presenting mild gastrointestinal discomfort,and 1 case with mild redness and swelling in local skin lesions.TCM group had 1 case presenting mild gastrointestinal discomfort.Laser control group had 2 cases of skin lesions and 2 cases of local purpura.The treatment of traditional Chinese medicine improved after adjustments and the swelling and purpura vanished spontaneously in about a week without treatment.9.The treatment group,TCM control group,and laser control group had recurrence rates of 16.13%,22.58%,and 28.13% respectively,after two months of follow-up.The treatment group’s recurrence rate was substantially lower than the control group’s(P<0.05).Conclusion: Piqing Decoction combined with 595 nm pulsed dye laser treatment effectively improves erythema,telangiectasia,papule pustules,dryness,and pruritus of rosacea with lung-stomach heat syndrome and improves their quality of life substantially.The combined treatment is superior to single medications and treatments,with minimal recurrence rate,thus making it ideal for clinical application. |
