ObjectiveTo evaluate and explore the curative effect and mechanism of action of Heated Needling combined with Catgut Embedding in treating Lumbar Myofascial Pain Syndrome(MPS).In order to find a convenient,time-saving and effective therapy in Lumbar Myofascial Pain Syndrome.MethodsThe randomized controlled trial included 74 patients diagnosed with Lumbar MPS who met requirements of this subject. The test group included 37 patients was treated with Heated Needling combined with Catgut Embedding. The control group included 37 patients was treated with Catgut Embedding.Course of Heated Needling:2 times/7 days,6 times/course,1 course in total.Course of Catgut Embedding:1 time/7 days,3 times/course,1 course in total. The 2 groups were assessed for the Chinese version of SF-MPQ and the modified ODI before the treatment(the before),after the treatment(the end)and on the 15th day after the treatment(return visit),and curative effect was evaluated.Data were analyzed by statistical software SPSS 22.0.ResultsThere were no statistical differences in gender, age, course of the disease or TCM syndromes types between the 2 groups(P>0.05).It found significant differences between the 2 groups in scores of the Chinese version of SF-MPQ(total score,PRI,VAS,PPI)and the modified ODI,both at the end(p<0.05)and on return visit(P<0.05/0.01).Concerning the Chinese version of SF-MPQ(total score,PRI,PPI)and the modified ODI,score changes between the before and the end showed significant differences between the 2 groups(P<0.01),so did score changes between the before and return visit(P<0.01).There was a significant difference between the 2 groups in VAS score change between the before and the end(P<0.05),however,there was no significant difference between the 2 groups in VAS score change between the before and return visit(P>0.05).At the end:cured, markedly effective, effective and ineffective cases counted 1,10,23 and 3 respectively, fully effective and markedly effective cases rated 29.73%,and total effective cases rated 91.89%in the test group(n=37);cured,markedly effective, effective and ineffective cases counted 1,2,24 and 10 respectively, fully effective and markedly effective cases rated 8.11%,and total effective cases rated 72.97%in the control group(n=37).On return visit:cured, markedly effective, effective and ineffective cases counted 4,14,18 and 1 respectively, fully effective and markedly effective cases rated 48.65%,and total effective cases rated 97.30%in the test group(n=37);cured,markedly effective, effective and ineffective cases counted 2,3,25 and 7 respectively, fully effective and markedly effective cases rated 13.51%,and total effective cases rated 81.08%in the control group(n=37).There were statistical differences between the 2 groups in therapeutic effect both at the end and on return visit(P<0.01).It found statistical differences between the 2 groups in fully effective and markedly effective rates both at the end(P<0.05)and on return visit(P<0.01).No statistical differences between the 2 groups in total effective rates at the end or on return visit(P>0.05).Comparing therapeutic effect at the end with that on return visit, there was a statistical difference in the test group(P<0.01),and no significant difference in the control group(P>0.05).Comparing fully effective and markedly effective rates at the end with that on return visit, there was a statistical difference in the test group(P<0.05),and no significant difference in the control group(P>0.05).Comparing total effective rates at the end with that on return visit, there were no statistical differences in the test group or in the control group(P>0.05).ConclusionIn Comparison with Catgut Embedding,Heated Needling combined with Catgut Embedding can effectively treat Lumbar MPS,which showed siginificant improvements in pain and Lumbar dysfunction and enjoyed more advantage in the persistence of curative effect. The treatment of Lumbar MPS with Heated Needling combined with Catgut Embedding is effective,time-saving and sustainable, and suitable for clinical promotion.
