ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of“Tongyuan Guben Method”for the treatment of children with persistent moderate-severe allergic preschool rhinitis.MethodsIn this study,a randomized controlled clinical trial was used to divide 66 consecutive children with moderate to severe preschool AR who met the inclusion criteria into a massage group and a western medicine group. The massage group was treated with the basic formula of "Tongyuan Guben Method",which was treated once every other day,3 times a week, and 1 course per week for a total of 4 courses. The western medicine group was given oral kairuitan combined with Shun Erning, once a day,1 course per week,a total of 4 courses. The main observation indicators were total nasal symptom score(TNSS),visual analogue score(VAS),and secondary nasal symptom score(TNNSS)and quality of life score scale for children with allergic rhinitis. The primary and secondary observations were compared before and after treatment to evaluate the corresponding efficacy, and the changes in the primary observations were continued during the follow-up period(8 weeks,16 weeks)to evaluate the short-term efficacy.During the treatment, patients’ combined medications and adverse reactions were recorded.Results1.The general situation of the children in the two groups:baseline data including age, gender, course of disease, and primary and secondary observation index scores before treatment were comparable.2.The TNSS score results showed that the data of the two groups were tested by the spherical hypothesis test and Greenhouse-G correction(P<0.05),indicating that there was an interaction between time and treatment.Comparison between groups:After treatment(4 weeks),there was no significant difference between the two groups of children(P>0.05).During the follow-up period(8 weeks,16 weeks),there were significant differences between the two groups of children(P<0.05).Comparison of time effects within the group:the two groups showed a significant downward trend from 0 to 4 weeks(P<0.05)and an upward trend from 8 to 16 weeks(P<0.05).The massage group showed a significant downward trend from 4 to 8 weeks(P<0.05),while the western medicine group showed a significant upward trend(P<0.05).3.Nasal and ocular symptoms VAS scores showed that the two groups of data were tested for spherical hypothesis and adjusted by Greenhouse-G(P<0.05),indicating that there was no interaction between time and treatment(P>0.05),Treatment had no significant effect on both VAS scores(P>0.05).The two groups showed a significant downward trend from 0 to 4 weeks(P<0.05),and there was no significant upward or downward trend from 4 to 8 weeks(P>0.05).8 weeks to 16 weeks showed an upward trend(P<0.05).4.TNNSS scores and quality of life scores for children with allergic rhinitis showed that comparison between groups:there was no statistically significant difference between groups on TNNSS scores and scores of quality of life for children with allergic rhinitis(P>0.05).Comparison within the group:TNNSS scores and quality of life scores of children with allergic rhinitis before and after treatment were statistically significant(P<0.05).ConclusionThe“Tongyuan Guben Method”and the western medicine Kairuitan combined with Shun Erning can effectively improve the nasal symptoms(TNSS,nasal VAS score,TNNSS)and ocular symptoms(Eye symptoms VAS score)and quality of life score, and the two are comparable.Follow-up to 16 weeks, the effect of pediatric control of rhinitis and nasal symptoms on objective evaluation was better than that of western medicine group, but the effect was equivalent in evaluation of children and family members.
