| Objective: To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and protein intake in Northeast China, and to analyze the relationship between protein intake and main food sources of protein and metabolic syndrome. Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, the choice in July 2018-December2019 in the northeast region in the survey population as the research object, using food frequency questionnaire research object in the past year the food intake frequency, reference food composition table to calculate the protein, animal protein, plant protein and its main source of food intake, use binary Logistic analysis to protein, animal protein, plant protein and its main food sources associated with MS.Results: In total, there were 14,874 subjects in this study, the prevalence of MS was16.88%,23.26% in males, and 13.70% in females. There were more than 60.15%population met the dietary protein recommended standard, and the plant protein intake in Northeast China was almost 1.5 times that of the animal protein intake. After adjusting for a variety of confounding factors, higher intake of protein, animal protein, and plant protein may be a risk factor for MS.and the ratio was protein:1.33(95%Confidence Interval,95% CI =1.24,1.82),animal protein 1.50(95% CI =1.24,1.82),and plant protein 1.55(95% CI =1.26,1.90).Stratified analysis showed that in women, the prevalence of MS increased by 45% with the increase of protein intake(Odds Ratio,OR=1.45,95% CI =1.15,1.84).The risk of MS increased by 46%(OR=1.46,95% CI= 1.13,1.89)and 72%(OR=1.72,95% CI =1.30,2.28)with increased animal and plant protein intake.Among the dietary sources of protein, increasing intake of eggs/milk and fruit decreased the prevalence of MS(egg/milk: OR=0.78,95% CI =0.67,0.91;Fruit:OR=0.66,95% CI =0.59,0.75),and the prevalence of MS increased with the increase of protein intake provided by vegetables(OR=1.16,95% CI =0.99,1.35).Conclusion: Increasing protein, animal protein, and plant protein intake would increase the risk of MS.The prevalence of MS is higher in males than females in Northeast China. An increase in egg/milk and fruit intake was a protective factor for MS,it is recommended that people in this region increase their intake of high-quality protein such as eggs and dairy products. |
