Objective:To explore the effects of eight-hour time-restricted feeding on endocrine and metabolic profiles in overweight and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods:18 initial-treated patients of PCOS with overweight and obese were enrolled from the endocrine clinic of Shengjing Hospital affiliated to China Medical University in2020.Eight-hour time-restricted feeding was provided for all subjects without medication. The experiment included maintaining a baseline period of one week’s previous diet and developing a daily diet between 8 a.m.and 4 p.m.for the next five weeks without the food type and the calorie limited. The forms of intervention include telephone Follow-up phone calls were conducted once every two weeks, and follow-up We Chat were conducted every week.Participants were provided with a food diary and instructed to record the daily beginning, and end of,food intake with calories.Changes in body weight, body mass index(BMI),Waist-to-Hip Ratio(WHR),skeletal muscle mass(SMM),body fat mass(BFM),body fat percentage(BF%),visceral fat area(VFA),luteinizing hormone(LH),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),LH/FSH,total testosterone(TT),sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG),free androgen index(FAI),fasting glucose(FG),fasting insulin(FINS),homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),area under the curve(AUC)for insulin(AUCInsulin),area under the curve(AUC)for glucose(AUCGlucose),AUCInsulin/AUCGlucose Ratio, triglycerides(TG),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),uric acid(UA),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs CRP),menstrual cycle and eating behaviors were evaluated. Before and after the intervention, the changes of dietary habits during the intervention were evaluated by the 21 revised items of the three-factor diet questionnaire. Results:A total of 15 PCOS patients(age:22.27±3.92 years;BMI:29.75±4.31 kg/m~2)completed dietary intervention. After TRF intervention, significant changes were detected in(1)body weight(P<0.001),BMI(P<0.001),BFM(P<0.001),BF(P=0.012),VFA(P=0.015),(2)FINS(P=0.017),AUCInsulin(P=0.007),AUCInsulin/AUCGlucose(P=0.001),HOMA-IR(P=0.025),(3)TT(P=0.048),FAI(P=0.001),SHBG(P<0.001),(4)hs CRP(P=0.040)and ALT(P=0.027).The menstrual improvement rate was about73.3%(11/15).Daily intake of total calories were stable. There was no significant change in dietary habits before and after intervention. Conclusion:The five-week of eight-hour TRF can reduce the body weight, reduce androgen levels and increase insulin sensitivity in overweight or obese wowen with PCOS of childbearing age without changing energy intake.
