Objective:To investigate the effect of Time-Restricted Feeding diet(TRF)on body weight,Homeostasis model assessment of Insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)and the metabolism of glucose and lipid in overweight or obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods:153 patients with irregular menstruation who were outpatients or inpatients were recruited in the Department of Endocrinology and diabetes in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from November 2018 to November 2019.Of them,76 patients who had complete data on clinical, biochemical measurements were enrolled in a 16-week randomized controlled intervention study and randomly assigned to TRF(n=39)or normal diet group(n=37).The data of demography, laboratory tests, body composition analysis, hepatic steatosis and fibrosis were collected and analyzed at baseline and 16 weeks.Results:58 of 76 patients completed the 16-week follow-up finally, body weight(-7.2(-9.05.5)vs-3.4(-5.5--1.3),P=0.005)and body mass index(BMI,-2.8(-2.1--3.5)vs-1.3(-2.0-0.5),P=0.002)decreased significantly in the intervention group(n=29)compared to the control group(n=29).The level of androgens and the degree of fatty liver and liver fibrosis were significantly lower in the intervention group compared with those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups in the change of HOMA-IR(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in glucose and lipid profiles, waist circumference, blood pressure, serum liver profiles and serum creatinine level and body composition between two groups after 16-week intervention(P>0.05).Conclusion:TRF,as a safe and feasible diet pattern, can significantly reduce body weight and BMI,decrease serum androgen level and the degree of fatty liver and liver fibrosis. It can be used as a recommended diet pattern for overweight or obese patients with PCOS.
