Objective: In recent years, chronic hard-to-heal wounds have been one of the major problems for medical practitioners, mainly due to residual wounds after extensive burns. There are many ways of treating chronic hard-to-heal wounds, but they are generally longer in duration and less effective. It has been found that both immersion hydrotherapy and alginate dressings have good results in the treatment of chronic hard-to-heal wounds, but the effectiveness of combining immersion hydrotherapy with alginate dressings to speed up the healing process and improve the quality of healing is the focus of this study. This paper collects statistical data to explore whether the combination of immersion hydrotherapy with alginate dressings is more effective in the treatment of chronic hard-to-heal wounds.Materials and methods:114 cases of chronic hard-to-heal patients from the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of Taizhou People’s Hospital from September2015 to December 2020 were collected as the study observation subjects, including 56 cases in the experimental group and 58 cases in the control group. The treatment method of the experimental group was to first treat the patients with immersion hydrotherapy followed by alginate dressing to cover the wounds, while the treatment method of the control group was to cover the wounds directly with alginate dressing after routine cleaning of the wounds. The alginate dressing used in both groups was the same silver ionized alginate dressing(Jie Rui,size 10cm*10cm).Both groups were dressed with sterile gauze after treatment. The results of wound healing rate, wound healing time, wound healing, positive bacterial culture rate of the wound and pain score of the patient’s dressing change were compared between the two groups. Results: The wound healing in the experimental group was better than that in the control group, with statistical differences(P < 0.05);the average wound healing time in the experimental group was 22.07 ± 3.020 days, and that in the control group was 25.14 ± 2.460 days, with statistical differences between the two groups(P < 0.05);the average wound healing rate in the experimental group was(42.20 ± 4.550)% in the experimental group and(32.67±3.317)% in the control group;the average wound healing rate was(95.80±3.413)% in the experimental group and(91.41±4.838)% in the control group on the 21 st day of treatment, with statistical differences between the two groups on the 7th and 21 st day of treatment(P <0.05).The positive bacterial culture rate of the wound was 92.9% in the experimental group and 94.8% in the control group on 7th day of treatment, with no statistical difference between the two groups(P >0.05).In the control group, the positive bacterial culture rate of the wound was 53.4%,which was statistically different between the two groups(P<0.05);the average pain score of patients in the experimental group was 5.68±0.765,while that of patients in the control group was 6.10±0.693,which was statistically different between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusions: 1.Immersion hydrotherapy combined with alginate dressing can promote the healing of chronic hard-to-heal wounds, and its therapeutic effect is better than covering with alginate dressing directly after dressing change.2.The short-term antimicrobial effect of immersion hydrotherapy combined with alginate dressing in the treatment of chronic hard-to-heal wounds is not obvious, but after a period of treatment the antimicrobial effect is significant, and its effect is better than covering with alginate dressing directly after dressing change.3.The combination of the immersion hydrotherapy with the alginate dressing relieved the patient’s pain and was more effective than direct coverage with the alginate dressing after dressing change.
