Study On Growth Characters And Fruit Quality Of Different Strawberry Varieties

Strawberry could be continuous bearing fruit within a shorter growth cycle,its nutritional value effective to remedy for the lack of winter fruit varieties.Consequently,these advantages made it important in the world’s small berries.With the rapid development of strawberry industry,China’s cultivation area and yield ranking the first in the world.At present,’Hongyan’ is the mainly cultivar in Jiangsu Province.However,there are many defects limited strawberry industry development.Such as degeneration of varieties while continuous planting,and subsquently impact on fruit yield and quality In order toscreening out more strawberry varieties with excellent agronomic characters,there are six strawberry varieties ’Hongyan’,’Xiangye’,’Yuexin’,’Yuexiu’,’Rongmei 3’,’Rongmei 5’ were collected and investigated.The defined results as following:1.Growth characters,’ Hongyan’ has showed vigorous growth,but susceptible to anthrax.’ Xiangye’ fruit display early maturing and resistance to diseases and insect.’Yuexin’ and ’ Rongmei 3’ have medium growth potential,and their fruiting time are following by ’Hongyan’.’Rongmei 3’ resistance to diseases and insect,"Yue Xin" was slightly infected by powdery mildew and red spider mite.’Rongmei 5’ plant has weak growth potential,but the leaf with a strong photosynthetic capacity.And the vigorous growth of ’Yuexiu’ is relatively weak.2.Fruit quality,’ Hongyan ’ has the largest single fruit weight and firmness.’Xiangye’ and ’Rongmei 3’ contains high sugar-acid ratio,content of soluble protein and vitamin C,sweet taste and rich nutrition.’Yuexin’ has high content of flavonoids,’Yuexiu’ has high content of total phenols and strong antioxidant.’Rongmei 5’ has low nutritional quality index and high acid content.In summary,’Hongyan’ is the outstanding variety in Jiangsu Province,but the grower needs to enhance the management for prevent diseases and insect pests and ensure the quality of fruit.’Xiangye’ can be planted with ’Hongyan’ due to its very early maturing.’Yuexin’ and ’Rongmei 3’ have medium growth potential,and the fruiting period is following by ’ Hongyan ’.Meanwhile,’Yuexin’ display the good comprehensive performance in Beijing and Shenyang.’Rongmei 3’ is popular in consumers in Jurong area with excellent taste and flavor.Thus,these two varieties can also be used as supplementary varieties of ’Hongyan’.’ Yuexiu’ has a weaker growth potential,but its fruit has bright color and high content of antioxidants.’Rongmei 5’ has a good growth potential,but the fruit has the highest acid content,the lowest sugar acid ratio and slightly sour taste.Therefore,Growers should be carefully to select the appropriate strawberry varieties according to their own agronomic characteristics.
