Abstract/Summary:
Deadlock is an important issue in agent based manufacturing systems. Deadlock is a situation in which two or more parts are in simultaneous waiting state, each one waiting for the others to release a resource before it can proceed. So, deadlock avoidance is an important factor to ensure smooth flow in an automated system. The current research is intended to model a flexible manufacturing cell within an agent based manufacturing system and set up system of rules to ensure deadlock free run of the system and evaluate the performance of the cell using Coloured Petri Net. The manufacturing cell used as a platform for this research consists of multiple machines, different types of parts and AGVs. The manufacturing cell under study has been integrated with a physical distribution network. In this research, CONWIP (Constant Work in Process) has been used as the order release mechanism to ensure deadlock free condition of the system.; In this research, Shortest Processing Time (SPT) rule has used as the machine scheduling rule.
