Abstract/Summary:
The cost of health care in the United States has reached staggering proportions. Registered Nurses have the ability to significantly impact these costs provided they have the knowledge and information to do so.; The primary purpose of this study was to determine if nurses were aware of the costs and of items used for IV starts, the cost and clinical indications for the Macrobore Extension Tubing. The study also explored nurses' willingness to modify their practice to be more cost efficient.; A nonexperimental descriptive study was conducted. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected with a questionnaire. The study found that participants did not know the cost of IV start supplies nor the indications for the use of the Macrobore Extension Tubing. However, participants did indicate their willingness to modify their practice to be more cost efficient as long as doing so did not impact the quality of care they delivered.
