Abstract/Summary:
Recent developments in the field of semiconductor technology have changed the consumer electronic industry related to video processing. With the advent and merging of various formats and standards through high end display systems, including mobile devices and media center PC's, the need has arisen for interoperability of various video display formats, in particular high resolution, high frame displays. More specifically, the problem area is post video decoding where the issues are adaptive interpolation, deinterlacing and frame rate conversion to match the format of the high resolution display. This thesis provides algorithms to solve the above-mentioned issues. Wavelet methods are developed to provide highly adaptive algorithms preserving edges in images and motion in video. The proposed algorithm can be implemented in an ASIC. Software is also developed to validate the proposed algorithms.
