Abstract/Summary:
A -20dB Airlifted Klopfenstein coupler is designed and micro-fabricated. The structure is fabricated on a glass substrate Er = 6.7. It is elevated 100um from the ground plane and is supported by SU-8 pillars. The coupler is designed to operate at a frequency range from 3.1GHz to 10.6 GHz. This frequency is regulated by the FCC to be Ultra Wideband Frequency. -0.6dB insertion loss and 11dB directivity is achieved in simulated results. The structure is independent of the substrate, that is, the substrate does not affect the performance of the coupler. Therefore, this coupler can be integrated on lossy substrate if needed to for measurement purposes. The final measurement of the coupler performance is proposed as a future step.
