As managers of healthcare technology in an era of rapid change and increasing complexity, the future brings many opportunities and challenges for Biomedical Engineering at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Stand-alone medical devices are being replaced by interconnected systems, bringing the need for a broader systems approach to healthcare technology management, and significant collaboration with the Information Management/Information Systems department. Biomedical engineering services across VCH have recently regionalized, creating opportunities to leverage resources, develop common standards of practice, and improve service levels across the region. Establishing a clearly defined direction enables the department to focus its efforts and activities to prepare for the future and align its efforts with the organization's strategic direction. This project creates a roadmap and direction for positive change for Biomedical Engineering across VCH and answers the question, "How can Biomedical Engineering lead the change in healthcare technology management required to meet the future needs of VCH?"...
