Jehol once belonged to Hebei province,Liaoning province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regions,and experienced the overlap of different regimes such as Beiyang Government,Nanjing National Government,Japanese Puppet Regime,and Communist Party of China.Newspapers and magazines,which was wrote in multiple languages such as Chinese,Mongolian,Japanese,etc.,with distinct regional and era features,play a significant role in the history of Jehol.However,the study on journalism history in Jehol and related research literature are rare after the author consulted the documentation.Therefore,on this basis,this thesis aims to preliminary sort out the modern newspapers and periodicals of Jehol to further exploring the characteristics and impact of newspapers and periodicals in Jehol,in order to enrich and improve the writing and arrangement of Chinese journalism history.This thesis includes five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,including a brief introduction of the administrative evolution in Jehol region,literature review,the research paradigm of journalism history,and a brief summarize of the research framework and innovation this thesis.The second chapter includes two sections,describing the historical background and social conditions of Jehol newspapers'birth,and the four historical stages of its development:the period before Jehol provinciated,the early period of Jehol Province,the period of the Puppet Manchuria,the period after Liberation War and the founding of New China,which includes the establishing body of the newspaper,nature,purpose,contents and modes of publication and distribution,and analyzes the important publications in detail.In addition,this chapter also summarizes the different development aspects of Jehol newspapers in different historical periods,and sorts out all the newspapers using tables and mind maps.The third chapter summarizes the overall development characteristics of Jehol newspapers from different dimensions including the nature of newspapers,the establishing body,the distribution modes and the text of the newspapers,and analyzes the external media ecological environment causing them.The fourth chapter analyzes the effect of newspapers and periodicals to the development of modern Jehol society.The fifth chapter is a conclusion,including summarizing the research results briefly,and reflecting the shortcomings of this thesis.In a word,under the influence of politics,economy,and education,the newspapers and magazines in the Jehol region showed relatively consistent characteristics.Newspapers and periodicals are of a single type and are mostly political publications,whose content is mainly for issuing government orders and propagating political ideas.The period of publication is short,the printing scale is small,the circulation is low,and most of them are distributed free of charge.Even though the development is kindly of "dysplasia",Jehol newspapers embodies the social functions of modern publications more or less,and plays an positive role in promoting the revolutionary process,spreading new knowledge,opening up people's wisdom,and enriching spiritual life,which promotes the progress of Jehol society.As a product of specific historical conditions,newspapers and periodicals under Japanese Puppet Regime have the coexistence of progressiveness and colonialism,which also determines the double-sidedness of social functions.They enslaved the Chinese thoughts while.opening up the wisdom of the people.However,generally,the scientific knowledge and modern ideas newspapers transmitted have objectively accelerated the pace of Jehol society towards modernization.Furthermore,the ethnic newspapers and periodicals in Jehol,under the influence of "Ethnic Meng and Han Combination",has a significant effect to maintaining national unity and inheriting national culture.
