Suicide can occur at every stage of the life cycle and has become the second leading cause of death in 15-29 age group globally. As a special and very important stage of individual development, adolescents need to achieve a balance between rapid physical changes and slow psychological development. At the same time, they are emotionally unstable, tend to perceive more negative information, and face a series of psychological crises, especially suicide when they go through puberty. The incidence of suicidal ideation among adolescents in China is between 10% and 25%.The psychosocial situation such like school climate, which is perceived by individuals, plays a very important role in suicidal ideation of adolescents. In addition to environmental factors, the vulnerability of individuals like negative emotion is also one of the important factors influencing suicidal ideation. Therefore, based on the stage-environment fit theory, the escape theory of suicide, interpersonal theory of suicide and integrated motivational-volitional model of suicidal behavior, the influence of school climate and negative emotion on suicidal ideation of adolescents is investigated in this study. The perceived school climate scale, positive and negative affect scale and suicidal ideation/suicidal attempt scale are used in the study which takes total 211 students in a middle school in Tianjin as the participants, and conducts three follow-up surveys at an interval of six months(the first conduct was in the fourth week of second semester in seventh grade).Study 1 discussed the influence of school climate and negative emotion on the development of suicidal ideation among adolescents at three time points by cross-lagged analysis.Study 2 examined the inter-temporal mediating effect of negative emotions on school climate and suicidal ideation by establishing a crosslagged model.Study 3 explored the influence of school climate, negative emotions and gender on the developmental trajectories of suicide ideation by establishing the latent growth model, trying to find out the differences in the developmental trajectories of suicide ideation among adolescents and the reasons for the differences. The main results of this study are as follows:1.Both school climate and negative emotion can predict suicidal ideation of adolescents longitudinally,in which school climate negatively predicted suicidal ideation and negative emotion positively predicted suicidal ideation;2.School climate at time point 1 can negatively predict negative emotions at time point 2,and negative emotions at time point 2 can positively predict suicide ideation at time point 3;negative emotion played an inter-temporal mediating role between school climate and suicidal ideation;3.The suicide ideation of adolescents showed a trend which is beginning with decreasing firstly and then increasing in the three measurements, and the initial level and the later change rate of suicide ideation of adolescents showed significant individual differences;there was no significant correlation between the change rate of suicide ideation and the initial level of suicide ideation;4.There were significant differences in the level of initial suicidal ideation among boys and girls, and the level of initial suicidal ideation among girls was significantly higher than that among boys;5.School climate had an influence on the developmental trajectories of suicidal ideation;good school climate had a promoting effect on the reduction of suicidal ideation of adolescents. In conclusion, some empirical evidence for the intervention of suicidal ideation in adolescents was provided by the longitudinal study. It is suggested that the influence of environment and individual factors on the suicidal ideation of adolescents can be comprehensively viewed from the perspective of development,so as to promote their physical and mental health development.
