Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, there are 99 cities which carried out urban reorganization for 238 times in total, including 188 mergers and 50 separations.Through the practice of large and medium-sized cities, urban reorganization plays an important role in optimizing urban interior space structure, integrating advantageous resources and improving administrative efficiency. However, compared with transforming county into city or urban district, the relevant research on urban reorganization is relatively scarce and the theoretical system is relatively lagging.Existing research not only lacks analysis from the time dimension, which focus on historical evolution process, and also the spatial dimension, such as region, urban agglomeration, administrative level city,to understand the space mechanism. Therefore,in order to grasp preferably the successful experience of previous urban restructuring and reform direction of the future urban restructuring, this research regard cities' recombinant as the research object to study its evolution process and spatial mechanism from two dimensions of time and space. In order to optimize the reform of urban recombination in China, the paper provides reference for the optimization of urban reorganization reform.Firstly, the paper is combing the evolution process and characteristics of the reorganization of urban areas in China's large and medium-sized cities from the time dimension.this research set the initial stage(1949-1977),the founding of the early stage of reform(1978-1999)and after the beginning of the new century(2000-present)Based on the evolution trend of the urban restructuring. To figures out various stages of the historical background, analyzes the evolution characteristics of each stage. It lays a foundation for the study of urban reorganization in the following chapters.(chapter 2)Secondly,the paper is discussing the characteristics of the reorganization of urban areas in China's large and medium-sized cities from different spatial dimension.(1)analyzing characteristics of urban reorganization in the four major regions of east, middle, west and northeast based on regional scale.(2)analyzing the characteristics of urban restructuring in the beijing-tianjin-hebei region, the Yangtze river delta and the pearl river delta based on the scale of urban agglomeration.(3)analyzing the urban reorganization of the three administrative levels of the municipality directly under the central government, the sub-provincial city and the prefecture-level city based on the city scale.(chapter 3,4 and 5)Thirdly,the paper is analyzing the mechanism of urban reorganization and evaluates the effect of the reorganization based on the shanghai's case.(chapter 6)Based on the above two dimensions, five aspects of urban restructuring analysis, the findings and conclusions are summarized, and writer therefore puts forward the relevant policy recommendations,at the same time points out the deficiency and prospect of this study.
