With the emerging application of exascale computing,the traditional electrical switching network challenges the next generation high performance computer because of its low integration,high power,low reliability,and bandwidth limitations.At the same time,optical switching techniques mature gradually with the development of silicon photonic technologies.The low latency,high bandwidth advantages of optical switching techniques draw more and more researchers' attention.The hybrid optical-electrical switching technology has become the development trend of next generation high performance interconnect network.On the basis of investigating the optical switching technologies,to deal with the high latency issue of current optical transmission and electrical switching network,this thesis proposed an improved low-latency high performance computing network based on hybrid optical-electrical switching.By adopting the non-blocking arrayed waveguide grating devices,the optical-electrical router based on wavelength routing method is designed.The multi-stage buffering structures,port arbitration strategies are designed,and the forwarding strategies on the granularity of optical packets are proposed.On this basis,the routing control schemes and flow control protocols are proposed to achieve the conversion of optical and electrical data stream.Based on the improved network,we developed an event-precision simulation model to interconnect 18432 computing nodes through a 5-level fat tree topology using OMNeT++ software framework.The network throughput rate and transmission latency are simulated under several traffic patterns such as uniform random traffic and hot-spot traffic.Compared to the current network,the hybrid optical-electrical switching network achieves average latency decrease of 8~10% and 90% throughput rate.The proposed network provided possible solution to the interconnect network of exascale computing.
