Research On The Development Of Community Archives Practice And Related Issues In The UK

Community archives are the collection of documents that record the history of community formed by members of the particular community members with common identity.The practice of community archives has extensive and far-reaching significance.Before the concept of community archives appeared,the early practice activity of community archives already appeared in British.From the 17th century to the early 20th century,the early local community formed by common geographical ties,as well as the archival collection,collation and practice preservation,which rooted in the study of local antiquities,local history and local folk collection behavior,that contributed the germination of the early British community archives together,After the middle of the 20th century,British community gradually diluted their common traits through their macro-geographical factors,and turned to common factors collection of individual's race,identity,gender and so on in micro-community.The British community archives have developed constantly in political demands of the marginalized and vulnerable groups to safeguard their rights and interests.Since the 21st century,the practice of British community archives has gradually improved,and formed co-construction situation of community archives resources,established professional community archives organization,broadened the platform of community interaction and communication,and improved the funding system of community archives projects.The development of British community archives practice has obvious stage traits,this paper conducted historical,comprehensive and dialectical analysis,which aimed on practice of community archives,in order to have a further understanding of it by archives from our country,and get the beneficial enlightenment of the construction of social archives in China.The introduction part had conduct systematically combs and analyzes of research results for previous community archives,summarized existing research achievements and shortcomings,and provided reference and ideas for the this paper.The second part of the paper,firstly analyzed the concept of community archives of the research object,through summarized views of the representative scholars and the official reports of the relevant institutions,generalized the basic traits of community archives into four aspects,such as concept inclusion,multiple forms,spatial self-consistent,ownership autonomy.The third part are the core contents of the paper,took the development and change of British's community archives practice as for main line,analyzed the role and function of community archives itself in this process,summarized three traits of British's community archives development,such as early germination,initial development and gradual improvement,tried to construct development process of British community archives thoughts and practice,in order to provide basis for combed theoretical value and practical significance of social archives to the development of British archives as below.The fourth part have discussed the reasons for the development of community archives in Britain,dialectical analyzed the positive impact of community archives in Britain and its realistic difficulties during practice,in order to summarize the experiences and lessons that should be learned in the development of community archives.The fifth part are on the basis of above four parts,made a comparative analysis of the links and differences of community archives practice between China and Britain,and puts forward feasibility proposals in the establishment of community archives that in accordance with the national conditions of our country.
