In today's world,the status and role of cities in politics,economy and culture are becoming increasingly prominent.It is becoming a trend to show the image of the country and the city by holding large-scale sports events.City promotional films played an important role during the hosting of major sports events.It can interpret the spirit of sports,with strong national and ethnic characteristics.The city promotional film in large-scale sports events has become a element to present the national image and strength,show the charm of the city,and reflect the vitality of the city.City promotional film of the large-scale sports event combines both the city image and the sports event.By positioning the city,screening and combining city symbols and sports symbols,organizing the storyline,visually using audiovisual languages and else methods can visually and centrally display the city image and sports image.At present,there are still some problems in the promotional videos,such as: narrative symbols are single;coding of city image symbols are obscure;more but less refined contents were displayed in promotional videos;the integration of urban image and sports events is extremely rigid;the narrative structure lacks of story-telling;the narrative perspective are single.This article selects three representative city promotional film of large-scale sports events as the research objects,including the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games bidding propaganda film which is "It's Worth It",the Hangzhou Asian Games flag-receiving ceremony promotional film was named as "Meeting in Hangzhou" and the Wuhan Military Games 100-day countdown promotional film "Blowing Rally." With the help of the theory of narratology,this paper interprets these films from the following aspects: story setting,narrative technique of city image,narrative technique of sports image,narrators,focal points and narrative time.The interpretation answered the questions such as "what is being told","how is the city story being told","how is the sports image being presented","who is telling","who is watching","In what order is being told".The paper summarized the narrative features of publicity films such as the sports image building a national image,the urban landscape shaping a modern image,the carnival rituals creating a harmonious atmosphere,traditional cultural output values,and reconstruction of foreign cultures to gain cultural discourse rights.Based on objective analysis of narrative limitations,such as the selections of city image publicity movie symbols for large-scale sports are similar,lack of creativity in narrative techniques,the experience of promotional videos in other countries,cities and events has been used to summarize the narrative optimization strategies for large-scale sporting events,which also proposes strategies such as positioning city image accurately to mine characteristic city symbols;transmitting core values and constructing the overall national image;broadening narrative methods to seek creative expression;innovating sports elements presenting to shape sports image cleverly;spreading in multi-channel to improve publicity effect and so on.
