A Study On Doctoral Students' Learning Motivations,Behaviors And Attitudes Based On MOOC Of Academic English Writing At Dalian Maritime University

This research takes 170 doctoral students in Dalian Maritime University as the subjects and the MOOC,Academic English Writing,as a case.Data are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively from three aspects:students' learning attitudes,learning behaviors and learning strategies.The SWOT situation is clarified to analyze strengths,weakness,opportunities and threats of MOOCs.Under the background of "Double First-Class",this study provides some suggestions of MOOCs construction for doctoral students.The results show that students have strong motivations for enrolling in the MOOC.The initial motivations for enrolling in,a course are divided into five aspects:Intrinsic Goal Orientation(IGO),Extrinsic Goal Orientation(EGO),Task Value(TV),Control Beliefs(CB),Self-Efficacy for Learning and Performance(SELP).The specific items of the above five aspects are in high rates,especially Intrinsic Goal Orientation(IGO),Task Value(TV),Control Beliefs(CB),Self-Efficacy for Learning and Performance(SELP).Most learners can self-regulate their learning:(1)They allocate learning time reasonably.Learners use their spare time,such as at nights or on weekends,to study this course;(2)They apply a variety of learning strategies,metacognitive,cognitive,affective and social strategies are used in a high rate during learning;(3)They participate in the discussion forum Although most learners post questions,replies and ideas independently on the discussion forum,there are still some learners who are not active in communicating with classmates and teachers.Participants are satisfied after taking this MOOC.(1)They feel positive on teaching form of this MOOC and think that the teaching content is "very important ",the videos and subtitles are "important",in-video questions,resources and articles,quizzes discussion forums are "moderately important";(2)Students recognize the instructor's teaching methods,which generate their interest in writing;(3)Students have positive attitudes on learning experience.They believe that learning on this MOOCs is not only beneficial to their writing,but also to their reading and listening.The results of this study play an active role in the reform of doctoral education.It is beneficial to develop high-quality MOOCs and select suitable courses for doctoral students to meet their learning needs.In addition,this study provides some referential suggestions for MOOC teaching of doctoral students in order to cultivate high-level and high-quality doctoral candidates.
