Autonomy is the ability to take charge of one's own learning without relying too much on others, which allows learners to take more responsibility for their own learning to learn independently and efficiently. It is considered to play an increasingly important role in language education. People who possess such capabilities have strong desire for knowledge and great ability to arrange their learning activities reasonably. They can always give scientific assessment towards their learning efficiency. If we want to develop learner autonomy, the most important thing is to change their conceptions and attitudes towards learning, to make them realize that they are the true masters of their learning. The students shouldn't be stuffed with knowledge but choose their learning methods and the way of solving problems autonomously. This paper reports on a research and analysis of learners'attitudes and behaviors towards autonomous English learning in form of questionnaire and interview. It is conducted with 508 senior high school students from three different grades in the Affiliated Middle School of Inner Mongolia Normal University. The study investigates students'views of their responsibilities and decision-making abilities in learning English, their motivation level and the actual language learning activities they undertook inside and outside the classroom with a view to gauging their readiness for autonomous learning. The paper presents the student profile generated from the study and concludes with the pedagogical implications of the findings for the implementation of learner autonomy at senior high school students'level in Inner Mongolia. It was also hoped that the findings could provide guidance for curriculum development, syllabus and material revisions and inform classroom practice regarding the promotion of learner autonomy at senior high school students'level.
