From the second Olympic Games in 1990,19 women entered the Olympic Games for the first time,and now the number of women participating in high-level sports events and the number of participants can be compared with men.The public is gradually deepening the attention of female athletes.As the main platform for the audience to obtain information,the media's choice of reporting methods directly affects the public's perception of the images of female athlete.China and the United States have significant differences in social attributes,sports concepts,and news systems.Therefore,we select the comprehensive daily newspapers,Southern Metropolis Daily and The New York Times,which have good credibility and authority in their respective countries and around the world.And conduct a comparative analysis.The research is divided into five parts:The first chapter is the introduction;The second chapter is an overview of the reports of female athlete images in newspapers;The third chapter is the empirical analysis of the reports of female athlete images in The New York Times and Southern Metropolis Daily.The fourth chapter is about the problems and causes of the reports of female athlete images in Chinese and American newspapers.The fifth chapter is the optimization strategy for the reports of female athlete images.This article takes the images of female athlete in the newspapers of the two countries as the starting point,and uses the stereotypes and framework theory as the theoretical basis to analyze the literature and analyze the content of female athletes.A summary of the images of female athlete in Chinese and American newspapers.Classification of female athletes' image characteristics,and summed up the female athlete images in different news pages.This paper selects 209 reports from Southern Metropolis Daily and 435 reports of female athlete images in the New York Times as the research object from January 2017 to June 2018.This paper compares and analyzes the content,reporting methods and image shaping of Chinese and American newspapers.And through the comparison to find out the problems in the reports of female athlete images,including the content of the report is uneven,the reporting method is unbalanced,and the image is biased.The reasons for these problems are: the ambiguity of traditional gender concepts,the current solidification of gender awareness,the limitations ofthe inherent sports concept,and the differences between the news systems of China and the United States.And from the aspects of widening the content of the report,improving the reporting methods,and improving the image of the report,we propose optimization strategies for the report in China.
