| The Chinese Football Association Super League(CSL),is the top professional football league in mainland China.As participating teams in accordance with the division of clubs,and home and away games double loop system competition,the Super League has a vast group of fans and geographical influence.The Beijing-Shanghai battle is one of the most attractive war,and the biggest difference between scores in the Super League was created during the Beijing-Shanghai war in 1997.The local media reports represent the regional feature and construct the regional identity."Beijing Evening News" and "Xinmin Evening News" belong to the "Four Evening News",are the comprehensive local newspaper for regional readers in Beijing and Shanghai.They both are the witnesses of the Super League from the beginning of exploration toddlers to the mature stage of development.Comparing with national newspapers,"Beijing Evening News","Xinmin Evening News" focus on the regional connotation behind the Beijing-Shanghai battle.From the perspective of regional identity construction,this study discusses the reports of the Beijing-Shanghai battle in Chinese Super League between "Beijing Evening News" and "Xinmin Evening News" from 1994 to 2017.The study found that the local media showed a high degree of concern about the matches which local teams participated in.As the most spectacular Beijing-Shanghai battle in the Chinese Super League,Beijing Evening News and Xinmin Evening News construct regional identity through the sense of regional similarities and differences,sense of regional belonging and sense of regional stand.Through the level of attentions,the other's appellation of the competitor,highlighting the image of "the Other" to construct the sense of regional similarities and differences;through the localization of report words,media reproduction of regional symbols and the thoughtful report to construct the sense of regional belonging;through the report attitude,emotional report words,report tendencies and perspective to construct a sense of regional stand.The proximity of geographic location,the needs of the audience and the positioning of the media determine the objectivity of regional identity.In the course of constructing the regional identity,however,there are some limitations such as limited horizons of coverage,excessive emphasis on the opposition between regions and the weakening of supervision function if mishandled.Therefore,the local media should handle the relationship between the construction of regional identity and objective reporting principles. |
