From December 2016 to February 2017,I was selected for the translation program of African Renewal, which is a magazine edited by the Department of Public Information of the United Nations(the UN).In this program,I translated two articles from English to Chinese and proofread another and all are published by the United Nations. This report describes the whole translation process, analyzes translation problems and provides solutions in light of Li Changshuan's "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA)"framework. The intention of this report is to provide reference to other translators, especially those who translate materials for the United Nations. The report first explains what this report is and the reason of writing. It also reviews the whole translation process, including preparation, translation and proofreading. This part intends to share information on project management.A translator should cooperate with the proofreader, schedule the time properly and communicate with other team members to ensure the project is completed as scheduled.Next, the CEA framework is used to analyze problems, discuss their causes and provide solutions. It turns out that the most typical problems are about expression, especially the problem of improper wording and westernized Chinese. However, adaptation problems can best reflect the characteristics of the translation of the UN documents, which usually has little room for flexibility. At the end of this report,I share other lessons learned during this project.Translators should improve their basic language skills, gain more knowledge in various fields and upgrade their skills in team work, scheduling, and stress management. In the appendix,I share documents on translation requirements, the UN's standard on number translation and reference websites.
