Objective:Chronic periodontitis is an ancient and common disease.The understanding of the disease from ancient civilization to modern medicine has never stopped.As an initiating factor,plaque partici pates in the occurrence,development and prognosis of periodontitis,often accompanied by gingival bleeding,periodontal pocket formation,alveolar bone absorption,tooth loosening and displacement,halitosis and other symptoms,affecting the oral health and related quality of life of patients to varying degrees[1].At the same time,it also increases the economic burden[2-3].Plaque control is the key to maintaining periodontal health,especially professional guidance for self-executing effective oral hygiene[4].At present,the clinical propaganda and education methods are mostly oral and model demonstration,which are difficult for patients to understand and master,and often relapse after inflammatory treatment.Some studies have pointed out that personalized oral health education can improve the effect of plaque control and improve the initiative of plaque control[5-8].The actual clinical situation,this study attempts to combine the plaque display agent with personalized theory and practical guidance on the basis of routine education,and repeatedly urges,strengthens and encourages to observe whether the plaque control is improved and whether it promotes the maintenance of clinical efficacy or improve oral hygiene behaviors and provide a basis for clinical decision-making.Methods:The 61 patients who were included were randomly divided into groups,the control group received routine oral hygiene education,and the experimental group received routine oral hygiene education combined with plaque control personalized guidance.The periodontal clinical indicators including PD,Al,BI,BOP%,PLI were recorded at baseline,2 months,5 months and 8 months after treatment,and the routine oral health behaviors at baseline and the 8 months included brushing times,the average time of brushing teeth,the number of times of using floss every week,and the subjective symptoms included the records of bleeding and halitosis.Results:The periodontal clinical indicators,oral hygiene behaviors,and subjective symptoms of the experimental group and the control group were significantly improved from baseline?all P<0.05?.The PD of the posterior teeth of the control group,the BI of the anterior teeth of the control group,BOP?%?,and PLI were in the 5 months.There were a rebound trend afterwards.The AL in the anterior teeth of the control group and the AL,BI,BOP?%?and PLI of the posterior teeth of the control group began to rebound after 2 months,which was more significant in the 8 months,except for the BOP?%?of the control group.There were significant differences?all P<0.05?.At baseline,there was no significant difference among the groups.At the 8 months,there were significant differences in periodontal clinical indicators,oral health behaviors and subjective symptoms between the experimental group and the control group.At the 5 months,there were significant differences in PLI,BOP?%?,PD between the expe rimental group and the control group?P<0.05?.Conclusion:Routine oral health education combined with personalized guidance of plaque control can effectively improve plaque control,maintain periodontal efficacy,improve subjective symptoms,and promote daily oral behavior habits,which can be used as a supplementary means of chair side education in periodontal maintenance period.
