Job Burnout Among Staff Of County-level Centers For Disease Control And Prevention In Jilin Province

Subjects:This study was to understand the basic situation of the staff in county-level Centers of Disease Prevention and Control(CDC)in Jilin Province,explore the relationship between job characteristics and job burnout,identify the risk factors of job burnout.Methods:By cluster sampling,six county-level CDC in Jilin Province were selected,all of the staff who had been on duty for more than six months in these six institutions were investigated by a self-reported questionnaire including Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey(MBI-GS)about demographic,job characteristics and job burnout,career self-assessment and career development needs.Data entry was carried out by Epidata 3.1 software and data analysis was carried out by SAS 9.4 software.Results:1.A total of 248 staff from six county-level CDC were investigated,and 234 were included in the analysis.Of the 234 people,153 were female,accounting for65.38%.The oldest was 60 years old,the youngest was 23 years old,with an average of 42.9 ± 10.2 years old.191 people were married,accounting for 81.62%.The education level of 159 people(67.95%)was college or university,primary title accounted for 30.34% and intermediate title 29.06%.2.Among the 234 respondents,192 were formal staff(82.05%),17.52% were contract employees;the average working time in the current CDC was 16.6 ± 12.5years;177 of them were professional personnel(75.64%),32 were professional and management personnel(13.68%),22 were management personnel(9.40%).The monthly income of 151 people(64.53%)was 3000-4999¥,the average working time was 7.4 ± 0.9 hours per day,and the average working time was 5 0 ± 0.3 days per week.3.The overall detection rate of the job burnout was 54.27%.The rates of mild,moderate and severe level burnout were 42.31%,9.83% and2.14% respectively.Three dimensions of the burnout,Emotional Exhaustion,Depersonalization,and low Personal Accomplishment were 17.95%,4.70%(11 / 234)and 45.73%(107 / 234)respectively.4.The univariate analysis indicated that preventive or clinical medicine majors,heavy work load,lower management level of leaders,tense relationship with colleagues,unreasonable reward and punishment system,few training and promotion opportunities,not satisfied from the service objects,may increase the occurrence of job burnout.Multivariate logistic regression showed that compared with other majors,the staff of preventive medicine and clinical medicine were more likely to have burnout,especially the clinical professionals,the risk of burnout was 2.7 times higher than that of others;the risk of burnout was more than 4 times higher than that of non-overload staff;the harmonious relationship with colleagues might reduce the risk of burnout occurrence.People who think their work is at risk of infection or other health risks have a lower incidence of burnout.5.The overall satisfaction rate of the respondents to their current work was89.7%.24.8% of the respondents thought that their current work did not realize their own value,and 29.9% of the respondents considered changing their job.The top five occupational needs were salary,working environment,professional title promotion,welfare and safety protection.Conclusions:1.The incidence of burnout of disease control personnel in Jilin Province is high,which was 54.27%.Among the three dimensions of job burnout,the detection rate of low Personal Accomplishment was the highest,followed by Emotional Exhaustion,and the Depersonalization is lower.2.The risk factors of county-level staff’s job burnout were various.Overwork was one of the main risk factors.The major,relationship with colleagues,promotion opportunities,work infection or other health risks were related to the occurrence of burnout.Targeted interventions were needed.3.It was common that the staff from county level CDC thought their work could not realize their own value.The biggestoccupation demand of them was toraisethe salary income.
