Objective: To explore the effect of balance training on the symptoms, activities of daily living, quality of life and physical activity levels of patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, and to determine its safety and feasibility,so as to provide reference for the intervention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted for this study.A total of 46 patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy were recruited in a third-grade class-A hospital in Shijiazhuang city from July 2018 to October 2018,and randomly divided into the intervention group and the control group according to 1:1.Patients in the control group were given routine nursing, and those in the intervention group were given balance training for 12 weeks besides routine nursing.SPSS software was used for intra-group and inter-group comparison of the symptoms, activities of daily living of patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, and inter-group comparison of the quality of life and physical activity levels of patients in two groups. Results: A total of 38 patients completed the whole study, including 18 cases in the intervention group and 20 cases in the control group, without any exercise-related adverse events. The results showed that(1)there were no significant differences in the general information, symptoms, activities of daily living, quality of life and physical activity levels of the patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy between two groups before the trial(P>0.05);(2)after the trial, the symptoms of sensory neuropathy of lower extremities alleviated in the intervention group compared with those before trial, and the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05),while there were no obvious changes in the control group(P>0.05),and the differences between groups were significant(P < 0.05);(3)after the trial, the symptoms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and its effect on activities of daily living of the patients in the intervention group was less than those before trial, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),while there was no significant changes in the control group(P> 0.05),but the differences between two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05);(4)after the trial, patients’ emotional function and quality of life in the intervention group were better than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P < 0.05);(5)after the trial, there was no significant differences in the physical activity levels between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions: The intensity, frequency, time and difficulty of balance training designed in this study are safe and feasible for patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.12-week balance training can improve the symptoms of sensory neuropathy of lower extremities, patients’ emotional function and quality of life.
