Objective:Describe the status quo of self-objectification,PMS and menstrual attitude of female college students, and to explore the effect of social demography on the occurrence of PMS.To identify whether the menstrual attitude plays an intermediary role in the relationship between self-objectification and menstrual symptoms. Methods:Based on stratification and cluster sampling method,1026 female college students of 1~4 grade were selected to carry out a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire includes a self-made general questionnaire,Symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome Questionnaire, the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire(MDQ),Menstrual Attitude Questionnaire(MAQ),and Self-Objectification Questionnaire(SOQ).Using SPSS 22.0software to data entry, analysis and processing of the effective questionnaire. The statistical methods include descriptive analysis,chi-square test,Spearman correlation analysis,Logistic regression analysis and PROCESS Bootstrap mediation analysis.Results:1.A total of 1026 questionnaires were distributed,989 valid questionnaires were returned, and the effective rate was96.39%.2.Menstrual symptoms scale score is(2.18±0.58),62.1%(614/989)of them were with premenstrual syndrome. The incidence of premenstrual syndrome from high to low ranking are: changing behaviors, denying emotion reactions, decreased attention, pain, autonomic nerve reactions, accumulation of moisture and sodium.Menstrual attitude scale score is(3.03±0.38),the ranking of each dimension from high to low are:menstruation as a natural event, menstruation affects physical and mental health events, menstruation as a bother-some event, anticipation and prediction of the onset of menstruation, menstruation does not affect women’s behavior.Self-Objectification Questionnaire score is(3.03±0.38),ability to grade score is(4.47±1.139),appearance grade score is(4.56±1.134).The incidence of premenstrual syndrome from high to low ranking are: health, overall attractiveness, weight, height, emotional shape, energy level, physical coordination, physical fitness level, sexual attraction,strength.3.The incidence of premenstrual syndrome in different levels of major, growth environment, ordinary physical exercise, academic pressure, traumatic experiences(be disappointed in love affair),days of menstruation, menstrual cycle, symptoms of menstrual period, menstrual knowledge,self-objectification,and menstrual attitude have difference, and the difference was significant(P<0.05).4.Spearman correlation analysis showed that: there was a significant positive correlation between self-objective level, negative menstrual attitude and premenstrual syndrome. The higher the degree of self-objectification,the more negative the menstrual attitude and the higher the incidence of PMS(P<0.01).5.Mediation test results show that: self-objectification can significant predict menstrual symptoms(β=0.370,P<0.01).The menstrual attitude significantly affects menstrual symptoms after introducing menstrual attitudes(β=0.204,P<0.01).The main effect of self-objectification on menstrual symptoms decreased(from β=0.370 toβ=0.309),and the mediating effect was 0.06,accounting for 16.32% of the total effect.Furthermore menstrual attitude played a part of the intermediary role between selfobjectification and PMS.Conclusions:1.Female college students have a higher incidence of premenstrual syndrome. The higher level of self-objectification suggests that female college students pay more attention to the appearance-related characteristics of the body.Menstrual attitudes are negative and pessimistic. There is a significant correlation between the selfobjectification, menstrual attitude and PMS.2.Major,growth environment, ordinary physical exercise, academic pressure, traumatic experiences(be disappointed in love affair),days of menstruation, menstrual cycle, symptoms of menstrual period, menstrual knowledge,self-objectification,and menstrual attitude were the vital influential factors of female college students’ premenstrual syndrome.3.Menstrual attitude played a part of the intermediary role between selfobjectification and PMS.
