Objective:To assess the status of mental workload among psychiatric nurses,and analyze the caused factors of nurses' psychological load in the process of nurse-patient interaction in order to provide a theoretical and practical basis for studying the level of psychiatric nurses' psychological health systematically in clinic practice,and promote the occupational safety for psychiatric nurses.Methods:1.Development of the questionnaire on psychiatric nurse-patient interaction stress events: Firstly,based on the results of qualitative interviews with 13 psychiatric nurses,the Job Demands-Resources(JD-R)was used as the theoretical framework,and the initial questionnaire was formed through literature review.Secondly,through the convening of the expert meeting and the pre-survey to amend the questionnaire,and test its reliability and validity.Finally,a questionnaire was formed.2.Investigation into the current situation of the psychiatric nurses' mental workload in the process of nurse-patient interaction and analysis of its influencing factors: A survey was conducted with 360 frontline psychiatric nurses by using psychiatric nurses' mental workload questionnaire and GHQ-12.Through statistical description,t-test,variance analysis to analyze the current situation and the influencing factors of the psychiatric nurses' mental workload in the process of nurse-patient interaction.Results:1.The formation of nurses-patient interaction events questionnaire: The questionnaire consists of three parts: the first part is general information questionnaire,including 12 items;The second part is the current situation of workplace violence in psychiatric nurses,including 8 items;The third part is the nurses-patient interaction stress events,including the three dimension 26 items,including nurses characteristic factors(8 items),patient characteristics(9 items),environmental and social support factors(9 items).The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the questionnaire and dimensions were 0.884 and 0.825~0.888,respectively.retest reliability coefficient is 0.876;The content validity indexes(CVI)for the total questionnaire and dimensions were 0.956 and 0.900~1.000,respectively.Exploratory factor analysis for the questionnaire extracted 3 factors,the total explained variance was 49.557%.2.Investigation into the current situation of psychiatric nurses' mental workload and analysis of its influencing factors: The survey showed that the average GHQ-12 score of psychiatric nurses was(4.21±3.63),and the psychological load was generally at a moderately high level.Significant predictors of heavy mental workload are male ward,male sex,receiving college level or higher education and long working life,unaccepted training were independently associated with high risk of mental workload(P<0.05).The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the nurses' characteristics and the workplace violence had a directly related.Conclusion:1.The questionnaire has a good reliability and validity,which can be used to investigate the current situation and influencing factors of psychiatric nurses' mental workload in nurses-patient interaction.2.mental workload of psychiatric nurses is generally at high level,the nurses' characteristics and the workplace violence had a directly related.It needs to be given priority and improvement.
